“The important thing is that we have shown the whole world that Russia is a self-reliant country in all respects. Russia is strong and is moving forward and confidently towards the future. This is certainly the most important result ever, ” President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with locals in the town of Anadyr in Chukotka, Russia's far east.

"Even the leading European economies are going through difficult times. Russia is on the rise, while those countries are in recession. In fact, they have become more dependent on Russia," Putin noted.

President Putin emphasized Russia's potential, declaring that the Russian government will address challenges and overcome all difficulties to achieve success.

Previously, at the recent Russia Calling Investment Forum, President Putin also stated that no one can stop or slow down Russia's development. The Russian leader said that the unprecedented sanctions imposed by the West on Russia are a "fierce attack", but cannot deal a heavy blow to the country's economy.

Late last year, President Putin also spoke out about the pressure that the West is putting on Russia. In it, he emphasized: "The West is trying to push Russia aside, weaken it, and ultimately want to crush it. But they will not succeed, never succeed."

Russia has been hit by a series of sanctions from the US and its allies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the "lightning" sanctions by the West against the Russian economy have completely failed. He said that despite the sanctions, Russia's economy will grow by more than 3% while other economies such as Germany will fall into recession. According to Mr. Lavrov, the economic landscape is changing in a way that is unfavorable to the West.

Mr Putin is visiting Chukotka. Chukotka is Russia's easternmost region, bordering the Bering Strait with the US state of Alaska.

This is Mr Putin's first visit to Russia's regions this year. In 2023, the president visited more than 20 regions, including newly annexed ones.
