Vietnamese football has only 2 players who can play in Europe
Under the leadership of coach Troussier, the Vietnamese team achieved poor results in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, with 1 win and 3 losses (almost no chance of going further).
Coach Troussier emphasized: " Vietnamese football still does not have enough players to achieve further goals. I think a strong team needs good individuals. The players need to meet the criteria in terms of physique, technique, experience and football thinking.
Coach Troussier commented on many things about Vietnamese football and compared it with Indonesian football.

In the Vietnam national team, we only have two players who have all the above factors, Bui Hoang Viet Anh and Hoang Duc. I think they are fully capable of playing at the top level in Europe.
But unfortunately, we no longer have anyone at that level. There are players with good football skills like Tuan Tai, Thai Son or Dinh Bac, but they are too small and lack experience playing football."
Hoang Duc (14) was never used by Mr. Troussier.

Coach Troussier continued: " On the other hand, Indonesia has 20 top-class players. If we have 20 Hoang Ducs or 20 Viet Anhs, Vietnamese football can completely participate in the World Cup."

Coach Troussier shared: "When taking over the Vietnam team, we set a goal to reach even greater heights than now, which is to become a top 10 team in Asia or enter the top 80 in the world. To do that, we need new people, new playing styles, new methods. There will need to be a transition period, and we have to accept that Vietnamese football is in that period. The price to pay for change is the mistakes in the matches against Iraq or Indonesia. But if we can overcome those mistakes, I believe the Vietnam team can do better than the achievements we have achieved in the past.
Sometimes to reach success, we have to accept taking one step back to take two steps forward. Most importantly, we must not let the current difficult situation change us."
Coach Troussier said that an apology would be too simple for him. Instead, he wanted all the fans to acknowledge the efforts of the whole team during the past time. Because that is something that no one can erase.
