In order for parents and students to understand the streaming policy and directions after junior high school and high school, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy said it is necessary to coordinate propaganda for teachers, parents and students about vocational training and choosing a career suitable to each student's conditions and circumstances.

Propaganda can be through newspapers, media and parents.

Ms. Thuy suggested that the Department of Education and Training create more favorable conditions for vocational schools, including colleges and intermediate schools, in the area to have more favorable access to counseling for students at middle and high schools.

In addition, the department should also have additional support programs for teachers and high schools when doing career guidance work.

According to Ms. Thuy, although more conditions are created for communication and enrollment, the first priority is to improve the quality of colleges and intermediate schools.

Through the survey, she found that many public vocational schools in Ho Chi Minh City still face many limitations in investing in facilities.

"If vocational schools are not attractive, how can parents and students choose them?" - Ms. Thuy said, adding that this is also the responsibility of state management agencies for public vocational schools.

Not only for parents and students, many vocational schools are also at risk of becoming less attractive in the eyes of businesses. Some public vocational schools have not kept up with the actual operations of businesses.

"If the school provides vocational training but the machinery is from 20 or 30 years ago, how can businesses find it attractive enough to recruit students?", Ms. Thuy wondered.

Ms. Thuy suggested that the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs could study and learn from advanced countries or countries with good vocational training quality to coordinate in building or transferring programs.

At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to investment and propose investment in facilities in vocational schools in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Thuy added that many students who choose to study in a separate stream will complete their training program and start looking for a job when they are 18 years old.

Because the students are still very young, schools need to prepare them carefully in terms of vocational skills, labor skills, and work skills so that businesses can confidently recruit them.

In addition, the two departments and schools need to conduct more surveys and reports on labor needs, recruitment situations and business requirements for candidates in order to have appropriate orientations for developing programs for students.

Student streaming reached 26.19%

Reporting at the conference, Ms. Huynh Le Nhu Trang - Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City - informed about the results of the enrollment report of vocational education institutions, the average rate of junior high school graduates enrolling in vocational education levels in Ho Chi Minh City is currently reaching about 26.19%.

In addition, the two sectors have coordinated and registered with the Department of Planning and Investment public investment projects for the period 2026 - 2030 to develop facilities and technical equipment for teaching in colleges and intermediate schools assigned to the Department of Education and Training.

Accordingly, in the period of 2026 - 2030, 8 vocational training institutions assigned to manage by the Department of Education and Training have made public investment proposals with a total estimated investment of about 1,969 billion VND, accounting for 55.8% of the total number of medium-term public investment projects in the vocational education sector of Ho Chi Minh City.

In the coming time, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City will have many activities in coordination with the Department of Education and Training and Ho Chi Minh City National University on education, training, career guidance, streaming, data collection, teacher training, building facilities, equipment, etc.
