Dinh Cao Son, the student who won the gold medal at the Chemistry Olympiad with the 7th highest score in the world, chose to study Chemistry Education at Hanoi National University of Education.
Dinh Cao Son, a former 12th grade Chemistry student at Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted, was one of three Vietnamese students who won a gold medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Switzerland in July. Son had the highest score on the Vietnamese team, ranking 7th out of nearly 350 students from 90 countries and territories.
Before the exam, Son had two months of studying at Hanoi Pedagogical University while training with the team.
"I find Hanoi Pedagogical University not only a suitable place to improve my knowledge in the major I am passionate about, but also a suitable place for me to hone my teaching skills to prepare for my future career," Son explained his choice.
While many students who won international Olympic medals studied abroad or chose to study at a domestic university for a year as a stepping stone, Son decided to complete four years of university in the country.
"Simply because I really like this industry," Son added.

Professor Nguyen Van Minh, Principal of Hanoi National University of Education, shared that students with achievements like Son or who won national prizes have the right to pursue many other majors, but choosing this school means choosing a dedication and commitment.
"This is so admirable. This is a blessing for Hanoi Pedagogical University and for the country's education," said Mr. Minh.
This year, Vietnam won 8 gold medals at the International Olympiads in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Information Technology. In Chemistry alone, the Vietnamese team won 3 gold medals. Son was the only one who chose to study Pedagogy.
This year, Hanoi National University of Education welcomes 4,000 new students. The admission score based on the high school graduation exam results ranges from 18.3 to 28.42. Of which, the Chemistry Education major takes 26.13 points for candidates applying with the A00 combination (Math, Physics, Chemistry) and 26.68 points for the B00 combination (Math, Chemistry, Biology).
With the direct admission method for candidates who won national and international prizes, in addition to Dinh Cao Son, there are 5 other students who were admitted thanks to winning first prize in the national excellent student competition in the subjects of Geography, History and Literature.
