On February 8, in the 60 and over category of the 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championship taking place in Thailand, "veteran" Hoang Hai Nam excelled as the first athlete to cross the finish line to win the first gold medal for the Vietnamese road cycling team in this tournament.
This achievement was even more encouraging when Hoang Hai Nam won on a bicycle lent by the host country Thailand.
This is the first time Hoang Hai Nam represents the Vietnamese Cycling Movement to participate in the Asian arena.
The 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championship will take place from February 7 to 16 in Phitsanulok, Thailand. However, before the tournament started, the Vietnamese road cycling team had an unfortunate accident when a vehicle carrying competition equipment, including about 30 specialized competition bicycles, caught fire.
According to updated information from the Vietnamese cycling team, the Thai Cycling Association has purchased 18 new helmets, 18 pairs of racing shoes and 18 pairs of pedals for the Vietnamese cycling team.
Thai Cycling Association also prepared 27 bicycles for the team to choose from and transport from Bangkok to the competition venue.
According to Lao Dong, the Vietnam Bicycle and Motor Sports Federation has sent 12 new bicycles to Thailand in time for athletes to compete.
In addition, Loc Troi Group also added 4 bicycles for female athletes who are capable of competing for medals in this year's tournament. These 4 bicycles will be shipped to Ho Chi Minh City and transported to Thailand tomorrow (February 9).
