From 12 noon on February 13 (the 4th day of Tet), traffic from southern provinces such as Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam... via Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway to Hanoi increased dramatically.
According to VietNamNet, a long line of cars moved a meter to move through the junction from Phap Van - Cau Gie highway to enter the center of Hanoi and onto the elevated Ring Road 3.
To combat congestion, Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 3 (Traffic Police Department) and the highway management unit have set up "living fences" to regulate traffic flow.
Traffic police temporarily closed the road leading to Ring Road 3 to reduce congestion on this route. At the same time, 5 officers and soldiers from the Traffic Police, Mobile Police and Road Patrol (Expressway Management Board) stood in a fence to separate the traffic flow.
A representative of the Road Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 3 also said that to reduce the load on the final section of the highway, the traffic police force also diverted traffic from a distance. Accordingly, right from Km 188 (Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway Toll Station), the unit opened a service road for vehicles to enter.
To reduce congestion at the end of the Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway, Team 3 also discussed with Traffic Police Team No. 14 (Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police) to divert traffic at the intersection of the expressway and National Highway 1A to Do Muoi Street (Hoang Mai, Hanoi).
By 4 p.m. the same day, traffic was congested on the elevated Ring Road 3, heading towards Mai Dich Bridge. The cause was heavy traffic and a collision between two cars.
According to the Hanoi City Police Traffic Police Department, the number of vehicles converging on the city center will continue to be high until tomorrow, February 14 (the 5th day of Lunar New Year).
