Tan Ky Tan Quy Street, a nearly 2 km long section in Binh Tan District, has been widened from 8-10 m to 30 m, helping to reduce traffic jams and open up the Northwest gateway of the city.

In mid-May, both sides of Tan Ky Tan Quy Street near the Black Water Canal were like a "big construction site" when a series of houses were demolished one by one, moving further back to make way for the road expansion project. Many houses were renovated by the owners, stabilizing their lives and business after the land was handed over. Meanwhile, many other families were hiring workers and machinery to complete the facade and rearrange the shops. Along the route, workers were busy digging roads, installing drainage pipes, and technical trenches in the sections of land that had been handed over.
Ms. Nguyen Hien, 45 years old, owner of a restaurant on Tan Ky Tan Quy street, said that after being persuaded by the government, before the Lunar New Year 2023, the house began to be cleared, handing over nearly 40 square meters to the project. The remaining area is half of the previous area, disrupting daily life, but the family soon agreed to hand over the land because the expanded road will make traveling more convenient and the house value will also be higher. "In the near future, construction sites will be carried out simultaneously, so business and trade will be greatly affected. I hope the project will be implemented quickly so that people can stabilize their lives," Ms. Hien said.

Started in March, the project to expand Tan Ky Tan Quy Street through Binh Tan is nearly two kilometers long, from Binh Long Street to Ma Lo Street. On this section, the road surface is widened to 30 meters and a synchronous drainage, tree and lighting system is built, with a total cost of more than 237 billion VND.
To implement the project, 380 households and organizations in Binh Hung Hoa and Binh Hung Hoa B wards were partially cleared and separated into a separate compensation and site clearance project implemented by the locality with a total cost of about 995 billion VND.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (TCIP - the investor), the project is being constructed in parallel with compensation and site clearance work. It is expected that this year, Binh Tan district will complete compensation and hand over the entire site so that the investor can complete the project in the fourth quarter of next year.
"Currently, the construction process is facing some difficulties such as narrow, unconnected land, and some sections with technical infrastructure that have not been relocated, which also affects the project's progress," said a TCIP representative, adding that they are focusing on coordinating with relevant parties to resolve problems and organize appropriate traffic, because the road must be both under construction and open to traffic.
Tan Ky Tan Quy is one of the main arteries at the Northwest gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, connecting Hoc Mon, Binh Tan, Tan Phu, Tan Binh districts with Tan Son Nhat airport and the city center. This route is currently about 8-10 m wide, so it is often congested, especially during rush hour due to the dense traffic flow.

According to Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport Phan Cong Bang, in addition to the expansion in Binh Tan District, Tan Ky Tan Quy Street from Le Trong Tan to Cong Hoa, in Tan Phu and Tan Binh Districts, also has a project, waiting to be implemented to remove the "bottleneck" that is often congested. This section is nearly 650 m long, expanded to 30 m, previously divided into three component projects.
Of which, the construction component has a total capital of more than 96 billion VND along with two compensation and site clearance projects, implemented by localities with a total cost of about 561 billion VND. However, the project to expand this section is temporarily suspended, waiting for the adjustment of the investment policy by combining compensation and construction into a common project for implementation. In addition to the road expansion, the Tan Ky Tan Quy bridge project on the route is about to be completed by the city after nearly 5 years of suspension.
