Even though 'every inch of land is gold', there are still people willing to donate land, widen roads, and build roads, contributing to multiplying noble deeds.
In early 2025, the news that Mr. Ngo Van Duong (85 years old) in An My village, Van Hoang commune, Phu Xuyen district (Hanoi) voluntarily knocked down the wall to widen the alley made not only the neighbors - the direct beneficiaries - excited but also made many people secretly admire.

The old wall was located right at the bottleneck, making it difficult for two bicycles to pass each other. Now, a new, solid, flat wall has been replaced, moved in about 40cm, revealing a gap that makes the small alley more airy, and three-wheeled vehicles can also enter.
Not only in Hanoi, in Bac Kan, this Tet, people in Na Chuong village have a new road to travel. Na Chuong is one of the poorest villages in Bac Kan city with 100% of the population being ethnic minorities such as Tay, Dao, Hoa. Previously, Na Chuong had no roads, people had to walk along the mountainside to get to the commune, gradually becoming a dirt road less than 1m wide, so traveling is very difficult, especially in the rainy season.
With the encouragement of the local government, the households here discussed and agreed to build a 500m long road from the village to the center of Nong Thuong commune. Families with land along the road voluntarily donated their land to build the road.
Wherever the road was built, the villagers donated land, without calculating how many meters, as long as the village had a large and beautiful road to make traveling and transporting goods less difficult. Other families donated labor days and contributed more than 30 million VND to rent construction machinery.
Along with people across the country, people of Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province, have enthusiastically responded to the movement of donating land for roads and public works for many years, becoming a bright spot of the whole province in the movement of mobilizing people to donate to expand roads.
The inter-village road in Ngoc Van commune, Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province, was widened from 3.5m to 8m and was completed at the end of 2024, with the support and contributions of the villagers. The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Van Lap village (Ngoc Van commune) also donated more than 30 square meters of residential land. Donating land for road construction helps villagers transport large quantities of goods, contributing to reducing transportation costs.
According to Mr. Duong Ngo Khoat - Chairman of Ngoc Van Commune People's Committee, up to now, people in the commune have donated more than 20,000 m2 of land to expand rural roads and build cultural and sports centers and welfare facilities to serve socio-economic development.
In the era of 'every inch of land is gold', even 1-2 square meters of land is a big problem. The beautiful actions of donating land to build roads or widening roads from urban to rural areas, from lowlands to mountainous areas are beautiful actions, inspiring many people.
Accordingly, not only families in An My village (Van Hoang commune, Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi) have committed to proactively move inward when building new houses, donating land to make the alleys more open. The noble gesture, for the common benefit of the people donating land to build roads and expand roads will create a strong influence and will be replicated throughout the provinces and cities across the country.
Joining hands to build public works, including the movement of donating land for road construction, will create a new face not only for the small streets and alleys of Hanoi but also in rural and mountainous areas. |
