Da Nang City is promoting the expansion of new international markets, in addition to the number 1 international tourist market, South Korea. According to the plan to restore tourism and diversify the international tourist market of the Da Nang City People's Committee, the Department of Tourism organized connections and discussions with airlines and travel companies in India about opening direct flights.
Central and Indian businesses discuss cooperation opportunities
Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh, Vice President of the Da Nang Tourism Association, Chairman of the Da Nang Hotel Association, said that from a market that was still unfamiliar to Da Nang, in 2023 Indian tourists accounted for 4.2% of the total number of international visitors to Da Nang, although the city did not have direct flights from India. "Clearly this is a big market for Da Nang City, and it is also the group of visitors with the highest spending among Asian markets. Therefore, if we prepare facilities and services for Indian visitors, this market will quickly become the main market for Da Nang," said Mr. Quynh. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, also noted that tourism businesses need to focus on the culinary element in this specific market ecosystem, such as training staff and creating different experiences for stays lasting 4-5 days.
Quang Nam promotes tourism in India
In mid-September, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province coordinated to organize a program to introduce Quang Nam tourism in Mumbai city to promote the image, introduce destinations, tourism products and services of Quang Nam to Indian partners. This is the first time Quang Nam has promoted tourism in India, attracting nearly 250 organizations, agencies, airlines, businesses and major Bollywood film studios to participate. On this occasion, the Quang Nam Tourism Association and the Indian Tourism Association signed a cooperation agreement to exchange tourists, creating opportunities to connect tourism businesses. In the first 6 months of 2023, Quang Nam welcomed 25,000 Indian tourists, among the top 10 largest international tourist markets. Surveys from travel agencies show that Indian tourists highly appreciate Da Nang for its ability to provide diverse products and services with guaranteed quality. Mr. Anuj Anand, Sales Director of Motherson Air Travel, shared: "The company has plans to bring visitors to new destinations and Da Nang is a destination not to be missed. Da Nang's current tourism products are also suitable for the tastes of Indian visitors, such as visitors who need to stay at least 4 nights at 4-5 star hotels, nightlife activities, bars, pubs and spas". Mr. Vinay Arora, Director of ATG Holidays, expressed satisfaction and surprise at the quantity and quality of Indian hotels and restaurants in Da Nang as well as the MICE policy that the city is offering to other groups.

Faced with that potential, the Department of Tourism of Da Nang City has implemented tourism promotion in the capital New Delhi and Gurugram (India), the largest city in the state of Haryana in North India, where major airlines are headquartered. The Department of Tourism has provided information on destinations, potential, impressive growth of the Indian tourist market and preferential policies for international airlines opening direct flights such as Air India, Vistara and Indigo.
High-end Indian tourists at a resort in Da Nang City
According to the Department of Tourism of Da Nang City, in the first 9 months of 2023, the number of Indian tourists to Da Nang City increased strongly with more than 95,000 arrivals, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of Indian visitors to Vietnam. Currently, travel companies specializing in exploiting Indian tourists to Vietnam such as Motherson Air Travel, Dream Trip4U, Luxury Vacations & Holiday, ATG Holidays are all expanding their networks. These travel companies specialize in exploiting MICE customers, FIT customers (individual customers) and high-end families, in line with the market orientation of Da Nang City.
According to Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Department of Tourism, with a series of strengths such as beach resort tourism, convergence of world-famous hotel brands, unique theme parks, night entertainment activities and rich culinary culture, advantages of connecting to world cultural heritages..., Da Nang City is an attractive new destination for Indian visitors. Da Nang City was also honored as Asia's Leading Festival - Event Destination. "The Department of Tourism is committed to providing specific support to airline partners to expand their flight network to Da Nang City, such as promoting new routes, welcoming the first route and foreign promotion programs. The Department also acts as a focal point connecting airlines with tourism businesses to form preferential and attractive product packages for sale, attracting customer exchanges between Da Nang City and major cities in India," Ms. Hanh affirmed.
Indian airlines have shown special interest in opening direct flights to the key tourism market of Da Nang. Among them, Vistara Airlines and IndiGo Airlines have promoted and are about to open direct flights.
