On November 13, Meiji announced that it would recall nearly 118,000 boxes of yogurt produced at Meiji's factory in Kansai due to concerns that the batch was also contaminated with a small amount of veterinary drugs like the previous batch of fresh milk.
According to the announcement, the recalled product is Meiji Bulgaria LB81 Plain Yogurt 400g, quantity 117,618 boxes, shipment with expiry date from November 16-18, 2023, distributed in 13 localities including Aichi, Gifu, Mie, Shizuoka, Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Osaka, Kyoto, Shiga, Nara, Wakayama and Hyogo.
Meiji said that the company voluntarily recalled the batch following government recommendations, and that consuming the products would not harm customers’ health. The company also apologized and promised to refund the purchase price of the product after customers registered and returned the product.
Previously, the Osaka prefectural government also requested the recall of more than 44,000 bottles of Meiji milk produced at a factory in Osaka, after discovering that the milk contained antibiotics used to prevent and treat infectious diseases in cows and other animals.
According to Japan's Food Sanitation Act, this drug is prohibited from being used within 72 hours before milking to avoid affecting the composition of milk.
