Mrs. Katyuscia Madeira still cannot believe that her son, HAGL Club striker Paollo Oliveira, passed away two days ago.

Oliveira, 27, was one of three HAGL members killed in a traffic accident on August 12, one day after the final match of Group B, Phase II of V-League 2023.

Immediately after the match at Vinh Stadium, the HAGL members said goodbye to each other. Paollo decided to return to the mountain town to have his injury checked. After that, he planned to fly to Ho Chi Minh City with his fiancee Araujo Chaves and then connect to Portugal to visit his mother and younger brother. But tragedy struck. The five-seater car carrying him, assistant coach Duong Minh Ninh and doctor Dao Trong Tri had an accident on the road in Gia Lai.

Paollo's wife was stunned by the news, while her luggage was already packed. In Portugal, Paollo's mother Katyuscia Madeira fainted and had to be rushed to the hospital. "Call me, son. Tell me everything that is happening is a lie," she wrote on her personal Facebook page.

Katyuscia has been a widow for nearly 20 years, raising two sons on her own. Three years ago, she lost her other spiritual support, her father, and now she has to witness the tragedy that has befallen her eldest son. "I wish I could hold my little boy in my arms and wake up from this nightmare," the 50-year-old added.

In 2022, Paollo decided to leave Portugal to join Ha Tinh FC in Vietnam. Mrs. Katyuscia was worried because Paollo was quite shy, but still encouraged her son to overcome it because she herself had left her home country of Brazil to live and work in Portugal. Paollo encountered many difficulties in the early stages and received many negative comments from Ha Tinh fans. At that time, Mrs. Katyuscia always spent a lot of time responding to comments on social networks to protect her son.

At this time, youngest son Sergio is by Katyuscia's side. For Sergio, Oliveira is not only a brother but also a close friend and a second father. Sergio sees his brother as an example of the spirit of never giving up. Since his training at the small club Raca Vermelha Imortal in the city of Albufeira, southern Portugal, Oliveira has suffered injuries or not played much, but always overcomes to realize his dream of playing professionally.

"I think you'll be happy with your dad and grandpa in heaven," Sergio wrote on his personal Facebook page . "Rest in peace, brother. Kiss dad for me, and don't forget to comfort our mom down here."

Initially, Mrs. Katyuscia planned to go to Vietnam to personally pick up her son's body and bring it back to Portugal, but later changed her mind because it would take a long time to get a visa and she herself was not in good health. The family decided to authorize HAGL Club to carry out the procedures to bring Oliveira's body back to Portugal. All expenses will be paid by HAGL Club.

Oliveira was born in 1996 and has dual Brazilian and Portuguese citizenship. He started playing professionally in Portugal for Imortal, then moved to SC Farense in the Portuguese First Division, but was continuously loaned out. In 2022, Paollo was loaned to Ha Tinh to play 23 matches in the V-League and scored 8 goals. This season, Oliveira moved to HAGL to play 17 matches and was the team's top scorer with six goals.
