(Dan Tri) - A parent in Da Nang has repeatedly transferred money to the "staff" of a calligraphy contest to register her child to participate. However, after transferring 55 million VND, the "staff" lost contact.

On November 19, the leader of the Department of Education and Training (GD&DT) of Cam Le District, Da Nang City said that they had received a report about parents of students suspected of being scammed out of money when registering their children to participate in a calligraphy contest. The parents have children studying at Ngo Quyen Primary School.

Specifically, when a parent saw online a handwriting contest with similar content to the contest organized by a company in Hanoi, he registered his child to participate.

After registering, the parents were advised by the "staff" to transfer 55 million VND to the organizing committee's account to participate in the contest. However, after transferring the full amount, the parents could not contact the "staff" to complete the procedures for their child to participate in the calligraphy contest.

A representative of the Department of Education and Training of Cam Le district said that the parent had reported the incident to the school. The unit requested the principal to disseminate information to parents and students to prevent and raise awareness of crimes on the internet.

At the same time, special attention should be paid to scams through online contests, requests for money transfers, providing personal information or links to unknown websites.

Leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Cam Le district also noted that schools need to instruct parents and students to carefully check the authenticity of programs and only participate in competitions organized by reputable agencies and organizations.

The representative of the company that has the same contest as the one in the announcement of the Department of Education and Training of Cam Le district said that the most recent handwriting contest organized by the unit ended on July 13 and recently, some people have copied the company's content to post on social networking sites for the purpose of fraud.

The company has also warned many parents about this situation, but many parents still "fall into the trap" and transfer money to scammers.
