At the Government press conference on the afternoon of November 4, the press asked the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training how the management of reference books and children's books is implemented to avoid inappropriate content. Recently, images of children's books with descriptions of data in textbooks have been circulating on social networks, causing negative public opinion.

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son, the Ministry of Education and Training has very strict regulations from standards, procedures to appraisal and selection for use. For reference books and books for children, the scope is very wide.
The leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training said that there are two issues. Regarding publishing and circulation, reference books and children's books are published by publishers, and the Ministry of Information and Communications is responsible for state management. Regarding publishing, publishers are responsible for the content.
Second, the Ministry of Education and Training recognizes that there is a need for regulations to strengthen the state's management responsibility in the use of these books in schools, general schools, preschools, and continuing education schools. Thereby, it is necessary to limit inappropriate content in reference books and books for children in school education.
Mr. Son also informed that since 2014, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued a circular on the use and management of reference books in schools. In which, it clearly stipulates the conditions, requirements, and responsibilities of teachers, schools, and the Department of Education and Training in managing the use of content brought into schools.
The standards and conditions are clearly stated here, especially the responsibilities of the school and the department in checking and inspecting. If there are inappropriate contents, those books will be stopped and not used.
"We have not seen any cases of reference books brought into schools with inappropriate content. Recently, there have been some phenomena, and this is not the first time, where some social media accounts, newspapers... took pictures of parts of books somewhere on the market, either intentionally or unintentionally, to make people misunderstand that this is the content of textbooks. This is very dangerous, with a very negative impact on the entire education system," said Mr. Son.
Even the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training also asked reporters to "take note", there is a lot of news about the education sector but it needs to be clearly verified, clearly identifying where it is, and whose responsibility it is.
