Speaking at the ceremony to receive the decision to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on the morning of January 25, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi pledged to fully implement the contents of his personal action program. He also expressed his determination to work with the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, and the City Party Executive Committee to unite, coordinate, and unify in carrying out important tasks.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi said that Ho Chi Minh City is a land with a long history and glorious revolutionary tradition. The city is also a special urban area, the most important economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technological center of our country.

"I am deeply aware that this is a source of pride and great honor for me. However, this is also a heavy responsibility before the Politburo, the Party Committee and the people of Ho Chi Minh City," Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi shared.
The new Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee emphasized that he aims to join hands and unite with the City Party Committee to build an increasingly clean and strong Party Committee; to fulfill the targets in the Party Resolution and the City Party Committee. He hopes that Ho Chi Minh City will develop more and more, contributing to the country as desired and expected by the Central Government and the people.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi affirmed that he will be proactive, creative, responsible, grasp and immediately implement the assigned tasks. He also pledged to preserve and promote the fine traditions, solidarity, innovation and creativity of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee that previous generations of leaders have worked hard to cultivate.

Speaking at the assignment, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen informed that in the past term, the locality has undergone 5 personnel changes in the position of Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee. The common point of these changes is that the personnel are trained, challenged, and developed to contribute in their new positions, providing a source of strategic cadres for the Central Government.
"Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi took on the task at an important time and was a very thoughtful decision by the Politburo. The city has about 9 months left to move towards the congress, there is not much time left. The Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee this term has gone through 3 major challenges: the Covid-19 pandemic, handling outstanding issues, and changes in key personnel, but all have been overcome thanks to solidarity and unity between will and action," said Mr. Nguyen Van Nen.

The head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee acknowledged that Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi has prepared a thorough action program, demonstrating political commitment, enthusiasm, and responsibility. The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee believes that Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi will get up to speed with the work and carry out the tasks as soon as possible.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi was born on August 12, 1976, his hometown is Ca Mau province. He is a Doctor of Construction Engineering, with a Senior Degree in Political and Administrative Theory.
From June 1999 to January 2007, he was a lecturer at the Department of Engineering - Applied Science at the University of Architecture, Ho Chi Minh City. During this period, Mr. Nghi studied for a master's degree at George Washington University (USA).
From January 2007 to December 2008, he was Head of the Department of Postgraduate Training Management and International Relations, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture.
From December 2008 to November 2011, Mr. Nghi was Vice Principal, Head of the Department of Postgraduate Training Management and International Relations at Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture. He was also Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, Member of the Executive Committee of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Construction's Base Block.
At the 11th National Congress of the Party in January 2011, he was elected as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee.
From November 2011 to February 2014, he was an alternate member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Party Executive Committee, and Deputy Minister of Construction.
From February 2014 to October 2015, he was Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province.
From October 2015 to January 2016, he held the position of Secretary of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee.
From January 2016 to October 2020, he was Secretary of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee, Head of the 14th National Assembly Delegation of Kien Giang province, Secretary of Kien Giang Provincial Military Party Committee, and Party Committee member of Military Region 9 Party Committee.
From October 2020 to April 2021, he was a member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Party Executive Committee, and Deputy Minister of Construction.
On April 8, 2021, at the 11th session of the 14th National Assembly, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi was approved by the National Assembly to hold the position of Minister of Construction and held this position until becoming the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
