On social network X , leaker Sonny Dickson shared an image of the iPhone 17 Air case, the ultra-thin smartphone expected to be launched by Apple at the end of the year.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be just 5.5mm thick at its thinnest point. To achieve this figure, Apple had to make some trade-offs, such as reducing the rear camera to a single lens.
Despite having only one rear camera, the iPhone 17 Air still brings a highlight thanks to the changed camera cluster. After many rumors, Dickson's image shows the shape of the new camera cluster.
Based on the image, the iPhone 17 Air case has a pill-shaped cutout on top, horizontal and spanning the entire width of the device.
This detail is consistent with many rumors that the iPhone 17 Air will have a camera cluster similar to the Google Pixel 9. The camera lens on the device is expected to be on the left, while the microphone and LED flash may be moved to the right.
“If you didn’t know about the upcoming iPhone Air, you would have insisted that this was a Google Pixel case,” Dickson said in the post.
Looking at the edges, the case has raised sections for the volume rocker and Camera Control (left edge if viewed from behind), volume up/down button and Action button (right edge).
According to MacRumors , case manufacturers often work with Apple's supply chain to get information on dimensions and designs for unreleased iPhones. Observing the production process and prototypes helps the company predict changes in design, thereby creating suitable case models.

In addition to the iPhone 17 Air, rumors say the iPhone 17 Pro could feature a similar camera cluster. However, it's unclear why Apple chose a new design for the iPhone 17 Air, especially since the product only has one lens.
For comparison, the iPhone 16e also has a rear camera, but the design is simpler with only a protrusion surrounding the camera, the other parts on the back are completely flat.
According to 9to5Mac , Apple tends to only change the design if it brings certain benefits in terms of space or technology. More details about the iPhone 17 Air may appear as the launch time nears.
Regarding other parameters, the iPhone 17 Air may be equipped with a 6.6-inch OLED screen (120 Hz refresh rate), A19 processor chip, 24 MP front camera. Despite the slim design, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to still be equipped with a MagSafe magnetic charger, not cut out like the iPhone 16e.
The iPhone 17 Air could also be the next smartphone to feature Apple's own C1 modem. Since its debut on the iPhone 16e, initial reviews have shown that the C1's speed is not much different from the Qualcomm modem but consumes less power.
