Russia released a video of airborne troops launching guided missiles, completely destroying two Ukrainian Stryker armored personnel carriers in Zaporizhzhia province.

The Za_Front Telegram account, which specializes in posting documents about Russian forces, on October 25 published a video of two Ukrainian army Stryker armored vehicles being hit by anti-tank guided missiles and burning fiercely near the Kiev-controlled city of Orekhov in Zaporizhzhia province.

Russian airborne troops attack two Stryker vehicles in Zaporizhzhia province in a video released on October 24. Video: Telegram/Za_Front

The attack was carried out by soldiers of the 7th Mountain Air Assault Division and recorded by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the 100th Special Reconnaissance Brigade "Osman".

The Strykers were spotted moving at high speed on a road in an open area with no tree cover. The video does not show the moment the first vehicle was hit, but it does show the full moment the Russian guided missile struck the side of the second Stryker and exploded. Both vehicles then burst into flames, and it is unclear whether the crew or infantry were accompanying the vehicles.

The Russian Defense Ministry and the Ukrainian military have not commented on the information.

The city of Orekhov is the main staging area for Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the Zaporizhizhia direction, about 15 km north of the strategic village of Rabotino, which Kiev recaptured in early September. The Ukrainian army is having difficulty advancing from Rabotino to the neighboring village of Verbove, while the Russian army has launched several raids on the rear to slow down the enemy’s advance.

The Stryker is a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle developed by the US based on the Canadian LAV III line, which began being deployed to the US Army in 2002. Each vehicle costs $5 million and is designed to be the backbone of medium infantry brigade combat teams (BCTs), filling the gap between heavy armor and light infantry units.

The Stryker does not have as much armor as a tank, but it is capable of operating well in snow, mud and sand. The Stryker is equipped with a 30mm, 40mm or 105mm cannon depending on the variant, in addition to 12.7mm and 7.62mm guns. The Stryker can reach a maximum speed of 97km/h with a range of about 500km.

The US has provided 189 Stryker vehicles to Ukraine, including 20 M1132 engineering vehicles, and began delivering them in March. About 90 of these vehicles are assigned to the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, one of the strongest units in the Ukrainian army today.
