The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said that the agency has warned Russia not to restart the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in southeastern Ukraine.
The Zaporizhzhia plant, which was under Russian control during the early days of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, has been out of operation since 2022 due to frequent shelling. Grossi said it was a war zone and the plant had been out of operation for a long time. Grossi also expressed two main concerns: the physical integrity of the plant and the disruption of external power supplies, which could prevent the plant from cooling properly.
