In 2024, the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (HSGS) will enroll 525 students, divided equally among 5 specialized groups, an increase of 105 compared to last year.
On the afternoon of March 27, the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, announced its enrollment plan for this year's 10th grade. The school stopped enrolling in high-quality classes according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and increased the quota for specialized programs.
Five specialized blocks of Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and IT recruit 105 students each, an increase of 15 compared to last year.
The school still reserves a maximum of 10% of its quota for direct admission of candidates who won first prize in the provincial excellent student competition. Candidates registering for a class must have won a prize in that subject, except for the IT specialized class, which accepts prizes in Math or IT in the National Youth IT Competition.
Students in this category are encouraged to request a letter of recommendation from a previous teacher. The school said this is a factor that is considered when evaluating their applications.
Students can submit their applications for direct admission from April 15 to 25, with a fee of VND100,000. Results will be announced before May 10.
The remaining candidates will take the entrance exam . They can register for a maximum of 2/5 specialized classes if the exam schedules do not overlap.
All candidates will take two general subjects, Math and Literature (120 minutes each), in the morning and afternoon of June 2, then take the specialized subject (150 minutes) on June 3. Candidates who register for a specialized class will take the corresponding subject, except for IT classes, which will take Math.

To be considered for admission, candidates must take all subjects and achieve a score of 4 or higher. The admission score is the sum of the general Math score and the specialized subject score multiplied by a factor of two, without adding priority points.
The school accepts applications from April 15 to May 13, with fees of 450,000 VND for one specialized subject and 600,000 VND for two subjects, an increase of 50,000-100,000 VND compared to last year. Results will be announced before June 25.

High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences was established in 2010 and has been the leading school in the country in terms of achievements in international excellent student competitions for many years.
Each year, the school enrolls about 500 students, usually receiving 3,000 applications. The competition rate for specialized classes ranges from 1/4 to 1/10, with IT and Math classes usually being the highest.
Last year, the benchmark for the Math class was the top with 19.5/30; followed by the IT class (19.25), Physics (16.25), Chemistry and Biology both with 15 points.
