The 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place in Thailand from August 17 to August 26. The tournament will feature 10 teams, divided into 3 groups (2 groups of 3 teams and one group of 4 teams). Vietnam U23 is in Group C, along with Laos U23 and Philippines U23.
Vietnam U23 is the reigning champion of the Southeast Asian U23 tournament after defeating Thailand U23 in the final match last year in Cambodia. In this tournament, Vietnam U23 participated with the main force of U20, led by coach Hoang Anh Tuan.
The main members of U23 Vietnam are players in the age group of 18 to 20.

VFF considers this year’s tournament an opportunity for young players to practice, aiming at the long-term goal of building depth for the national team. The main members of the Vietnam U23 team are players in the age group of 18 to 20. In addition, some U23 players who just participated in the 32nd SEA Games have been added to improve the quality of the squad.
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan is in charge of the team competing in the U23 Southeast Asian tournament and the 19th ASIAD in Hangzhou (China). Meanwhile, Coach Philippe Troussier is leading the main team of U23 Vietnam to participate in the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers later this year.
" Although the Vietnam Football Federation does not place much importance on the achievements in the upcoming tournament, we do not allow ourselves to play arbitrarily. We enter the tournament with serious preparation, with a desire to contribute and with clear goals for each match, especially we will try our best to demonstrate beautiful play and a beautiful image of Vietnamese football in the international arena ," coach Hoang Anh Tuan said before the tournament.
Before leaving for Thailand on August 14, coach Hoang Anh Tuan reduced the list to 26 players. The team will play a friendly match with U23 Bahrain at 4:00 p.m. on August 15. The match is a test to evaluate the performance of the players, especially the group that joined late. After that, U23 Vietnam finalized the list of 23 players before the opening match against U23 Laos.
