Mr. Le Thanh Bay (65 years old, residing in Phu Hung commune, Cai Nuoc district, Ca Mau province) voluntarily donated 15,000 m2 of roadside land on National Highway 1A to build 2 schools when mobilized by the local government.

In Phu Hung commune, Cai Nuoc district, when mentioning Mr. Le Thanh Bay, everyone expressed their admiration for his noble act. "The story of Mr. Bay donating thousands of square meters to build a school, everyone in this area knows. We really appreciate and admire his heart", said Ms. Nguyen Thi Tu - Mr. Bay's neighbor.

In 2022, when the local government came to his house to persuade him to donate land to build Hoa Sen Kindergarten and Phu Hung Secondary School, Mr. Bay immediately agreed. To him, the thousands of square meters of land his family owns is very valuable, and while money is important, it is not as important as the future of an entire generation.

"Contributing to education is also contributing to the development of the country," Mr. Bay said with a gentle smile.

This 65-year-old farmer said that he loved going to school since he was a child, but because studying was very difficult in his time, he only finished 9th grade. So today, when the government encouraged him, he wanted to create conditions for his children and grandchildren to have a good place to study, so that when they become successful, they can return home and contribute to their homeland.

Mr. Le Hoai Nhan (Mr. Bay's son) said that although he had agreed from the beginning, Mr. Bay still listened to the opinions of each family member. And when hearing him talk about his intentions, everyone agreed and supported his actions.

Ms. Nguyen My Xuyen - Principal of Hoa Sen Kindergarten said that the old school had been built for many years so it was degraded, not qualified to be recognized as a national standard school at level 1, and at the same time could not expand the area to meet national standards at level 2.

"When Mr. Bay donated land to build the school, the school staff as well as the parents were very happy and grateful for his gesture," said Ms. Xuyen.

Mr. Le Van Xia - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Hung Commune, Cai Nuoc District said that in 2022, when there was a policy to build these two new schools, the People's Committee of the commune found that the land of Mr. Le Thanh Bay's family was suitable for construction, so they mobilized him to donate land.

"When we went to campaign, we were also afraid that Mr. Bay's family would not agree, because the land area to be donated was quite large. However, when we explained, Mr. Bay and his family immediately agreed, making the campaign team very happy," Mr. Xia recalled.

For his part, Mr. Bay said that he hopes to have good health so that he can continue working and producing to take good care of his family, and to contribute more to local social security movements.
