At the ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai, along with leaders, former leaders of the city, units, union members, and people of Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province respectfully bowed to commemorate the heroic martyrs and patriots who sacrificed their lives.
The delegates also expressed their deep gratitude to the heroic Vietnamese mothers, war invalids, families of martyrs, and families of people with revolutionary contributions.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai said the great sacrifices of many generations of Con Dao prisoners are heroic pages of the nation's history, written with the sacred love for the homeland.
Over the past time, the Party Committee, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province have always paid attention to and done well the work of gratitude.
Thereby expressing the respect and gratitude of the Party, State and people to those who sacrificed and contributed for the independence, freedom and unification of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people.
"Let us join hands and hearts to continue the glorious tradition of previous generations, and together we are determined to build a great solidarity bloc for a civilized and prosperous Vietnam," said Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai.

Speaking on behalf of the youth of Ho Chi Minh City, President of the Student Association of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education Nguyen Minh Uyen said that over the past two days, the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people have expressed their infinite condolences to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - the steadfast, intelligent and exemplary leader of the people who has left us.
During his lifetime, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always had special affection for young people and often advised and educated the young generation about revolutionary ideals, ethics, cultural lifestyle, and promoted patriotism and national pride.
Following the nation's tradition of "remembering the source of the water you drink" and the advice of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Ho Chi Minh City's youth respectfully bowed to commemorate their revolutionary predecessors and heroic martyrs.
"At the place where flowers bloomed on the land where the blood of loyal communists was shed, each rolling wave seemed to contain countless ups and downs of history, we told ourselves that the martyrs, the uncles and aunts, former political prisoners, and prisoners of war of Con Dao were heroes, shining examples for the younger generation to learn from and follow in terms of willpower, patriotism, and revolutionary heroism," Nguyen Minh Uyen prayed before the souls of the heroic martyrs.
