Myles Lewis-Skelly became the youngest player to score on his England debut, helping England to a 2-0 win over Albania. The Arsenal player said: “I am so grateful to the manager for believing in me and giving me the chance. I am so happy, I don’t know what else to say.”

Just 20 minutes into the game, the Arsenal left-back scored for England. At 18 years and 176 days, Lewis-Skelly broke the record set by Rashford (18 years and 209 days) in 2016.

Coach Thomas Tuchel revealed that the Football Association (FA) went through many discussions before deciding to call up Lewis-Skelly. However, he affirmed that this young talent proved that the choice was completely correct.

“As soon as he entered the training centre, he showed qualities that made it easy for everyone to like him. He is a top player with a great character, who deserves what he has achieved,” Tuchel said of his student.

“He is full of confidence and humour, has an incredible openness and maturity. What you see on the pitch is who he is off it. Lewis-Skelly is very confident. His run (which led to the goal) was the turning point of the game,” the German coach emphasized.

A 2-0 win over Albania in the European World Cup qualifiers was a promising start for Tuchel and Lewis-Skelly. However, Tuchel warned England needed to improve after struggling to score against Albania. The former Chelsea boss also complained that England were too individualistic.
