Kim Son actively preserves traditional art

In Kim Son district, in recent times, the activities of preserving and promoting traditional art forms have received great attention from agencies, units and localities by organizing training courses, classes, public performances and exchanges with localities in the province. Thereby, gradually spreading and developing traditional art forms among all classes of people, contributing to the construction and development of an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.

Comrade Pham Van Sang, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Kim Son district, said: In Kim Son district, Cheo singing has its roots since 1954, initially as a troupe, then formed a Cheo mat and developed into a Cheo troupe called Nam Dan. The years 1974 and 1975 were a very prosperous time for the Nam Dan Cheo troupe when they regularly toured all the provinces and cities in the North and recorded many good Cheo works on the Voice of Vietnam Radio.

Over time, with the development of new and modern art forms in social life, the Nam Dan Cheo Troupe was divided and gradually faded away. In 2017, with the desire to restore and honor traditional Cheo art, Kim Son district established a Cheo singing club with nearly 30 members, gathering many talented artists with the ability to perform and a passion for Cheo singing. Every year, the Cheo Club serves on holidays, Tet, and local political events; regularly performs at temples and pagodas and actively participates in competitions and mass art performances of the district and province.

In order to restore, preserve and develop the unique values of Ca Tru, and at the same time raise awareness and pride in preserving and promoting the value of the cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO as an intangible heritage in need of urgent protection, in 2018, Kim Son district established the Ca Tru Club, with over 20 members. The club members are music teachers at schools and talented people who love Ca Tru in the district. They share a love and passion, regardless of age or generation. What is admirable is that, with the desire and determination to restore the art of Ca Tru singing, Kim Son district has organized many basic and advanced classes taught directly by artisans in Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province - the hometown of Nguyen Cong Tru and members of the Xuan Dinh Ca Tru Club, Hanoi city. These are people who are knowledgeable and have deep knowledge and skills in this art form.

With passion and desire to preserve the invaluable heritage of the nation, the artisans have made efforts to pass on, train, and contribute to reviving the love of Ca Tru for the people of Kim Son. Every month, at Nguyen Cong Tru Temple, the children of the Kim Son open land gather here to practice and exchange. The sound of the Chau drum, the sound of the Dan Day, Senh, Phach and the lyrical singing echo in the solemn worship space, together contributing to reviving this unique traditional art form.

Nowadays, Ca Tru melodies have gradually returned to the lives of people in the district. Besides the ancient Ca Tru melodies, there have been many new compositions with the breath of modern life, such as praising the beautiful landscape and people of Kim Son, with familiar, easy-to-listen, easy-to-remember lyrics, helping this art form to spread and reach closer to all audiences.

Regarding the folk performing art of Xam singing, in 2021, according to Decision No. 76/QD-BVHTTDL dated January 12, 2021 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announcing the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, Kim Son district is located in the area of distribution and conservation of Xam singing art.

On that basis, at the end of 2021, Kim Son district was coordinated by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh province with the Center for Cultural Heritage Data, Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts to pilot a model of teaching Xam singing art in Kim Son district with the goal of implementing a number of ways to teach Xam singing art to typical local talents, contributing to preserving and promoting the value of Xam singing art in Ninh Binh province.

Accordingly, 20 students with expertise and talent in music, mainly music teachers in high schools, then became the core and collaborators to teach and expand Xam singing in mass art movements in the area and spread it among high school students.

In 2022, Kim Son district will continue to organize training on Xam singing and the use of musical instruments. Currently, the district has established a Xam singing club with over 30 members, contributing to Yen Mo district and other districts and cities in the province to preserve the art of Xam singing of the nation.

In order to preserve and promote the values of intangible cultural heritage in the area such as Cheo singing, Ca Tru singing, Xam singing, associated with the development of tourism products serving tourism in the district, in the coming time, Kim Son district has some orientations such as: Continuing to organize annual training, improving the quality of traditional art clubs of the district.

Propaganda to expand the audience, attract people who love culture and arts in communes and towns with many factors, promote the development of traditional art movements at the grassroots level.

Create conditions for traditional art clubs of Cheo, Xam, and Ca Tru singing of the district, communes, and towns to perform and exchange and learn within and outside the province to improve the quality of art.

At the same time, actively promote traditional art forms to the people, mobilize the participation of departments, branches, organizations, and social networks in traditional art forms such as Xam singing, Cheo singing, Van singing, Ca tru singing, etc., arouse mass cultural and artistic movements in localities, preserve traditional cultural values of the nation, and contribute to improving the work of building cultural life at the grassroots level.
