Special attention to developing cultural tourism

These days, the Hanoi Lotus Festival 2024 is taking place. This is the first event held at the Tay Ho Cultural and Creative Space (Hanoi). The festival introduces many lotus products, OCOP products associated with the culture of the northern mountainous provinces, with many attractive and unique activities to honor and affirm the value of the lotus in economic development and people's spiritual life.

According to Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, the Hanoi Lotus Festival aims to promote and honor the beauty and cultural values ​​of Hanoi, highlighting the unique value of lotus tea brewing and the unique characteristics of lotus culture in the lives of Hanoians in particular and Vietnamese people in general. At the same time, this is also an opportunity to promote and stimulate tourism, unleash the potential for developing OCOP products of localities; attract tourists to visit Hanoi and Tay Ho, contributing to the development of local economy and tourism.

Hanoi is focusing on developing lotus as part of its strategy to restructure the agricultural sector in association with urban agriculture and tourism development. This is one of the important contents in transforming the crop and livestock structure to suit the urbanization process and build sustainable ecological urban areas.

On July 13, the Hanoi Department of Tourism and the People's Committee of Tay Ho District organized a survey program and conference "Upgrading service quality and connecting tourist destinations of Tay Ho District with travel agencies in Hanoi in 2024". Accordingly, delegates surveyed a number of typical tourist destinations in Tay Ho District: Dong Co Temple, Kim Lien Pagoda, West Lake Flower Valley, Nhat Tan Tourist Area, listened to the introduction and experienced the lotus tea brewing activity, and enjoyed West Lake lotus tea.

Diversify tourism products

Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Tran Trung Hieu said that in order to gradually invest in improving and improving the quality of tourism services and diversifying tourism products towards preserving and developing sustainable tourism, Hanoi Department of Tourism has issued Plan No. 83/KH-SDL dated June 18, 2024 on organizing a survey program, connecting tourist destinations of districts, towns and cities with travel businesses in Hanoi in 2024.

According to Mr. Tran Trung Hieu, Tay Ho is the central district of Hanoi Capital, with many potentials and advantages for tourism development. The area around West Lake with a long history has formed many traditional crafts, with a dense concentration of valuable historical relics, along with the technical infrastructure system around West Lake that the City has invested in has contributed to enhancing the value of West Lake, making West Lake the most prominent scenic spot of the Capital.

In particular, the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism informed that the West Lake area will have 12 types of services allowed to operate. These are tourist boat, boat, canoe, water bike business on the lake (no overnight stay); passenger transport by water (in combination with international and domestic travel companies in the area); boating services (including sup rowing, kayaking, peritxia boat, dragon boat rowing, traditional boat); windsurfing, sailing; diving; developing many cultural tourism services, performing arts, sports; water music performances; hot air balloons; paragliding; water golf course business on the lake. This is a very favorable opportunity for Tay Ho district to develop a variety of services, entertainment to supplement traditional service products.

It is known that the Department of Tourism together with the People's Committee of Tay Ho district will continue to research and advise on the implementation of tasks to continuously improve service quality and develop a variety of unique and creative experiential tourism products associated with the heritage values, relics and craft villages of Tay Ho district, thereby contributing to creating bright spots in the development of the capital's cultural industry. In the period up to 2025, with a vision to 2030, focus on developing the West Lake area and its vicinity into an entertainment, cultural and artistic center, a water sports area, and unique tourism and service products in the direction of preserving and promoting the value of water landscape space, natural ecology, and cultural heritage; exploiting historical values, traditional cultural and artistic culture, and becoming a high-quality tourist area, attractive to domestic and international tourists.

This is a model, an economic, cultural and social development direction that can be called a highlight to motivate other districts of Hanoi. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan highly appreciated the efforts of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in coordinating with Tay Ho district and a number of units to organize the Hanoi Lotus Festival for the first time, associated with the event to introduce OCOP products and the culture of the northern mountainous provinces on a large scale, impressive and spreading practical values.

According to the Minister, Hanoi is on the right track in exploiting indigenous cultural values ​​and local strengths to develop OCOP products. The introduction and promotion of OCOP products is associated with events and festivals that are organized in an increasingly professional and attractive manner. The Hanoi Lotus Festival not only honors the beauty of lotus flowers, honors the spiritual and cultural values ​​of lotus flowers in the lives of Vietnamese people, but is also an opportunity to strengthen connections and promote the development of multi-values ​​from lotus plants.
