On March 2, the Investigation Police Agency of Cai Lay District Police (Tien Giang) announced that it had just issued decisions to prosecute and temporarily detain 6 suspects to investigate the act of extortion of property while collecting debts.
The defendants prosecuted and temporarily detained include: Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung (31 years old), Nguyen Quoc Dat (26 years old, all residing in Cai Lay District), Vo Cao Tuan (44 years old), Nguyen Tan Vu (42 years old), Nguyen Hoang Phuc (38 years old, all residing in Chau Thanh District) and Kien Thuong (28 years old, residing in Go Cong Tay District, all residing in Tien Giang).

At the investigation agency, Nhung confessed that in January 2024, through a friend, Nhung lent Mr. Luu Van Hoang Anh (residing in Cai Lay District) 50 million VND. When the time came, Mr. Hoang Anh did not pay, Nhung called many times to demand the money but was unsuccessful.

On the afternoon of January 24, Nhung called Thuong to ask her to go collect the debt. Thuong invited Tuan, Phuc, Vu, and Nhung invited Dat to go with her.
Arriving at Mr. Hoang Anh's house but not being able to meet him, Nhung's group threatened Mr. Hoang Anh's wife and children to demand that Mr. Hoang Anh pay the debt. Thuong and Tuan took out homemade knives they carried with them to threaten Mr. Hoang Anh's wife and force her to pay the debt.

Before leaving, Nhung's group threatened to come back if Mr. Hoang Anh did not pay.
After that, Nhung transferred 1.2 million VND to Thuong for the salary, Thuong paid Phuc, Vu, and Tuan 300,000 VND each. Thuong, Dat, Phuc, Vu, and Tuan all admitted to violating the law.
Currently, the Cai Lay District Police Investigation Agency continues to consolidate the case file to handle the suspects in the case of threatening the debtor's relatives to collect debt.
