In recent times, agricultural production has continued to face many difficulties and challenges due to natural disasters, epidemics, and instability in the world political and economic situation. However, the agricultural sector has accompanied businesses and local people to achieve and exceed many set goals, affirming its position as the "support" of the economy, contributing to the economic, political and social stability of the province.

In 2023, the area of grain crops planted in the province will reach 54,436 hectares (102.1% of the plan), with food output reaching over 309,193 tons (118.9% of the plan). The rice planting area will be over 50,222 hectares, of which the high-quality rice area will be 41,000 hectares, accounting for over 80% of the cultivated area.
The area of large-scale rice production reached 13,000 hectares, more than 1,784 hectares were linked with enterprises to consume products. The rice yield of the whole province reached 58 quintals/ha, 11.3 quintals/ha higher than the previous year. Rice output reached 291,297.9 tons (117.37% of the plan).
Implementing the plan of the Provincial People's Committee on converting crop structure on rice land, the agricultural sector has coordinated with localities to review, propagate and mobilize people to convert rice growing areas with water shortage and low efficiency to grow other dry crops, such as: watermelon, corn, green beans...
Up to now, the province has converted 280 hectares of water-deficient rice fields to dry crops. The converted crops generally grow well and are 1.5 - 2 times more efficient than rice cultivation.
The livestock sector continues to develop towards industrial farms, applying high technology and bio-safety. The province currently has 697 livestock and poultry farms. Of these, 23 are large-scale farms, over 70 of which apply high technology and are linked with businesses.
Investment attraction in 2023 continues to be promoted. During the year, 11 project dossiers of enterprises have requested the Provincial People's Committee to grant investment policies for livestock farming in the province. Notably, the livestock farm project combined with high-tech agriculture for growing medicinal herbs of Solar Kesap1 Company Limited in Huong Linh - Huong Hoa (scale of 12,000 pigs) has been completed. This is the largest high-tech livestock farming project in the province.
In 2023, the implementation of regulations against IUU fishing achieved positive results, with no fishing vessels or fishermen from Quang Tri violating foreign waters. The rate of fishing vessels licensed for fishing and equipped with voyage monitoring equipment exceeded the maximum scoring criteria of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Security and order at sea were maintained.
Aquaculture output in 2023 will reach over 36,724.4 tons, of which exploitation output will reach 28,073.1 tons and aquaculture output will reach over 8,651.3 tons. The aquaculture area will reach over 3,393 hectares, with the whole province having about 107 hectares of high-tech aquaculture.
Identifying sustainable forest management and international forest certification as essential for forestry development, the agricultural sector has promptly provided guidance and support to forest owners, and conducted annual assessments to maintain and expand the area of certified forests.
Up to now, in the province, there are 6 units participating in sustainable forest management and forest certification, of which the certified area (FSC, VSCF, PEFC) is over 22,165 hectares.
In the field of rural development and new rural construction, the whole province has 69/101 communes that have met the new rural standards, of which 9 communes have met the advanced new rural standards. Hai Lang and Trieu Phong districts have completed the criteria for new rural districts, Cam Lo district has basically met the criteria for advanced new rural districts.
Currently, localities are focusing on completing criteria, procedures, and documents to submit to competent authorities for recognition of standards. The One Commune One Product program is being directed to be implemented more and more deeply. To date, the whole province has 115 products recognized as OCOP products, of which 42 products have achieved 4 stars and 73 products have achieved 3 stars.
Secretary of the Party Committee, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ho Xuan Hoe said that to achieve the above results, the Department's Party Executive Committee has comprehensively led all aspects of work, concretizing the resolutions of the Party Congresses at all levels and the Resolution of the 7th Party Congress of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for the 2020-2025 term.
Party committees, heads of agencies, units and organizations must enhance their responsibilities, strengthen solidarity, leadership and direction in implementing programs and tasks of agencies and units; strengthen state management in all fields; build and implement well the regime, responsibility and ethics of cadres, civil servants and public employees; practice thrift, fight against embezzlement, waste, harassment and negativity; be close to the people.
“In the coming time, the Party Executive Committee of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to review and strictly and effectively handle outstanding cases that cause resentment among Party members and the masses; pay attention to whether or not there are signs of degradation in political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, “self-evolution”, “self-transformation” within the organization” to clearly identify the causes, propose solutions and timely remedies.
At the same time, consider typical collectives and individuals in studying and following Uncle Ho to introduce, propagate, and replicate in the Party Committee, Party cell of the agency, unit and propose superiors to commend and reward.
