According to the General Department of Tourism, international visitors to Vietnam in June 2023 are estimated at 975,010, up 6.4% compared to May 2023 and up 427.0% over the same period in 2022. In the first 6 months of 2023, the total number of visitors is estimated at 5.6 million, up 1,248.7% over the same period in 2022.

Quang Ninh is a familiar destination for Chinese tourists.

In January 2023, the number of Chinese visitors to Vietnam was small, with nearly 16,000 people, increasing to 55,000 in February, and 69,000 in March - when China began to open internationally. In April, the number reached 112,000, and in May, it increased to 147,000.

With more than 557,000 visitors, China ranked second in the top 10 largest international tourist markets of Vietnam, after South Korea with 1.6 million. Third was the US with 374,000 visitors, Taiwan with 322,400 visitors...

However, the number of Chinese visitors to Vietnam in the first half of 2023 is still quite small compared to 2019 - before the pandemic. At that time, Vietnam welcomed about 2.5 million Chinese visitors and in 2019 welcomed 5.8 million, with 348,000 visitors in June alone.

In addition to the increasing international tourist markets, statistics from the General Department of Tourism also recorded many markets with sharp declines. Specifically, the tourist markets that increased in the 6 months included Laos, Taiwan, Singapore, the US, Norway, Finland, Sweden, etc. The tourist markets that decreased sharply included Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Canada and many European countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Spain, the UK, Germany, Italy, Denmark, etc.

Thailand welcomed one million Chinese tourists in the first five months of 2023.

The country expects the number of Chinese tourists to reach its target of 5-7 million this year, with spending of 13.18 billion USD. The total number of foreign tourists Thailand received in the five months was 9.47 million.

Southeast Asia's second-largest economy grew faster than expected in the first quarter, helped by a continued recovery in the tourism sector, Reuters reported.
