This afternoon, candidates taking the 10th grade high school entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year in Hanoi completed the foreign language exam.

A quick report from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training on the afternoon of June 10 showed that the number of candidates taking the exam was 115,042/115,651, reaching a rate of 99.5%. There were 609 absent candidates, 3 candidates were suspended for bringing phones into the exam room.

The examination sites in Hanoi were safe, serious and in accordance with regulations. The whole city has 201 examination sites with 4,477 examination rooms (non-specialized), in addition to 402 backup examination rooms.

The number of staff, teachers and employees present was 15,368/15,369 people, accounting for 99.99% (one supervisor was sick and a backup teacher was arranged to replace him according to regulations). No exam supervisor violated exam regulations.

Previously, after the literature exam this morning, two candidates in the city violated exam regulations and were suspended, one of whom brought a cell phone and the other brought documents into the exam room.

This morning's literature exam was considered easy and within one's ability. Part I of the essay was an excerpt from the work "Distant Stars" by writer Le Minh Khue with reading comprehension questions and a requirement to write a literary argumentative paragraph about the camaraderie of the main characters.

Part II is an excerpt from a letter from a father to his son with reading comprehension questions and a requirement to write a social argumentative essay about the meaning of controlling one's emotions.

In English this afternoon, some teachers commented that the exam remained stable in structure and difficulty compared to the 2022-2023 exam with 40 multiple choice questions in 60 minutes.

The knowledge units asked are in the English program for secondary school, mainly grade 9.

The familiar exam structure will not put too much pressure on candidates; just having a solid grasp of basic phonetics, grammar and vocabulary in the textbook is enough to complete 70% of the exam.
