This afternoon, June 18, in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province, the Border Guard Commands of Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces held the 2024 annual talks with the Military Command (CHQS) of Savannakhet Province (Laos).
At the meeting, implementing the border cooperation agreement and the minutes of talks signed in 2023, the two sides assessed the results in the work of coordinating border protection and management.

Accordingly, we have coordinated to propagate to the people on both sides of the border about the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos; strictly implement the Protocol on the border line and border markers between Vietnam and Laos, the Agreement on the regulations on border management and border gates on land between Vietnam and Laos. Raise awareness of the methods and tricks of sabotage of hostile forces, effectively fight against all types of crimes, ensure political security, social order and safety.
The units have also coordinated bilateral patrols to protect the status quo of the border system and national border markers. The model of twinning residential clusters on both sides of the border has been maintained and effectively implemented.
The Border Guard Command of Quang Tri province supported the Military Command of Savannakhet province with a canoe to patrol the border river and rescue supplies worth about 1 billion VND. Huong Lap Border Guard Station supported Border Guard Company 321, A Via Kindergarten and Primary School, and 30 disadvantaged households in Savannakhet province worth over 150 million VND. The Border Guard Commands of Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces organized border guard training for 40 officers of the Military Command of Savannakhet province.
In the coming time, the two sides agreed to focus on key contents: Continuing to implement the border cooperation agreement between the Border Guard Command and the Border Guard Department, General Staff of the Lao People's Army.
Strengthen propaganda for people in border areas to raise awareness of law compliance. Increase information exchange on situations related to crime, national border security, illegal entry and exit. Coordinate in handling and resolving incidents related to territorial sovereignty, security and order and be ready to arrange forces and means to help each other when situations arise in border areas.
Strengthening coordination in bilateral patrols to protect border safety and border markers, strictly controlling border crossing activities, building a peaceful, stable and developed border. Advising local Party committees and authorities on building infrastructure, developing socio-economics in the border areas on both sides, recommending the Lao Government to invest in building roads to the border to facilitate the opening and upgrading of the Chut Mut/Quang Binh - La Vin/Savannakhet border gate.
Earlier, on the same morning, the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command and the Savannakhet Provincial Military Command held a meeting to discuss and agree on contents related to a joint exercise to prevent illegal immigration and illegal entry and exit across the Vietnam-Laos border.
