From August 28 to September 1, the Saigon International Guitar Festival 2024 (SIGF 2024) will open at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. The festival will become an artistic rendezvous for the city's audience and international guitarists.
With SIGF 2024, Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music creates a diverse and rich learning and exchange environment, helping students develop comprehensively and access opportunities for specialized art exchanges with other countries, thereby experiencing and learning knowledge from different artistic cultures. The competition helps raise awareness, update knowledge, complete and adjust specialized teaching and learning methods.
The festival features 6 concerts, a classical guitar competition open to contestants from all over Asia, with 4 solo categories and 1 ensemble category (2 or more guitars). In addition, workshops and masterclasses with world-class guitarists.
SIGF 2024 opens with a concert called the Opening Festival (Ouverture De Festival) taking place on the evening of August 28. Opening the program, the orchestra will bring music from famous artists around the world such as Les 4 Points Cardinaux by French musician Francis Kleynjans and Kalimba & Techno by Swiss artist Kindle Jürg.
The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a duet of two musical instruments, mandolin and guitar, performed by the Japanese duo Risa Shimono and Kozo Tate. In addition, there will be a reunion of the Saigon Guitar Quartet, including artists Nguyen Thanh Huy, Nguyen Tri Doan, Huynh Ba Tho, and Tran Hoai Phuong.
The concert on the second day (August 29) with the theme Young Virtuoso gathered young famous musicians such as: Kasia Smolarek (Poland); Pongpat Pongradit, Gen Nutthachai Chaivanich (Thailand).
The third night (August 30) of The Legends is a time-traveling train with immortal music performed by two artists An Tran (Vietnam and the US) and Benjamin Verdery (Spain). The audience will have the opportunity to listen to Vietnamese melodies such as Thanh Giong by Nguyen The An, Lullaby by Dang Ngoc Long through the performance of An Tran or the vibrant contemporary music of composer Benjamin Verdery.
The fourth concert night, The Magic of Baroque (August 31), welcomes performances from the famous pianist Admir Doci (Albania/Switzerland) and the veteran artist Gerard Abiton (France).
The guitar competition within the framework of SIGF 2024 includes 5 groups: Open group, under 18 group, ensemble group, amateur group and amateur group under 13.
On August 29, 30, 31 and September 1, respectively, masterclasses with guest artists such as Benjamin Verdery (USA), Admir Doçi (Albania/Switzerland), Gérard Abiton (France), Keun Cheng (Malaysia), Giovanni Grano (Italy) will take place. Especially on September 1, famous artist Gen Matsuda from Japan will instruct a masterclass course dedicated to guitar ensemble.
In addition, the public will also have the opportunity to interact with domestic and foreign guitar craftsmen such as Gerard Abiton (France), Benjamin Verdery (USA), Giovanni Grano (Italy), Risa Shimono (Japan), An Tran (Vietnam/USA)... A special highlight of SIGF 2024 is that the audience will have the opportunity to admire and enjoy the special sound of the 13-string guitar of artist Admir Doci.
