Overcoming difficult family circumstances, teacher Ksor H'Hien (Ayun Pa town, Gia Lai province) still works hard every day to take care of preschool children.

Through the introduction of a teacher working in Ayun Pa town (Gia Lai province), we learned about the situation of teacher Ksor H'Hien (group 2, Cheo Reo ward, Ayun Pa town) - a contract teacher working at Hoa Hong Kindergarten. Despite her extremely difficult family situation, with her love for the profession and children, she always tries to work hard and strive to improve her life.

Meeting Ms. H'Hien, it is true that behind that petite figure is an extraordinary will to live. Recalling her years of studying full of difficulties, Ms. Ksor H'Hien said that she was born into a family of 6 siblings, belonging to a poor household in the locality. Since childhood, Ms. H'Hien had a dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher, so even though she had to shoulder the family's work early, she still tried to ask her parents to let her study properly.

In 2016, after graduating from the preschool program of Gia Lai Pedagogical College, Ms. H'Hien applied to teach on a contract at Hoa Sen Kindergarten (now Tuoi Tho Kindergarten, Ia Trok Commune, Ia Pa District). Just out of school, the small salary of 2.7 million VND per month was enough to make her feel extremely happy because she had reached her dream. Then she got married and gave birth to her first son. Having to quit teaching to stay home to take care of her child, the family became poor, all expenses depended on her husband's small salary as a hired worker, making her life even more chaotic.

To prepare for the teacher recruitment exam that year, she had prepared very carefully. However, on the day of the exam, her one-month-old son suddenly had a high fever, she had to take him to the hospital for treatment and missed the exam.

The unstable income from both husband and wife's jobs has prevented H'Hien's family from escaping poverty for many years. The family of three lives year-round in a dilapidated house surrounded by old corrugated iron. Two years ago, the house was seriously degraded but without the funds to repair it, the couple had to move back in with their parents.

To make ends meet, after each class, Ms. H'Hien takes the time to take care of her family's 2 sao of cassava and corn fields or takes on jobs like weeding, pulling cassava, and cutting rice for villagers. Her husband works as a construction worker, a porter, or a coffee picker for hire. The couple encourages each other to strive for a better future.

Throughout her teaching career, she has always tried her best to study hard to prepare for the exam to become a full-time employee. However, contrary to her expectations, in 2020, the new Education Law required preschool teachers to have a college degree or higher, making things even more difficult for her.

She thought that when the door to the establishment closed, she would give up her job, but with her love for children, she was determined to stay in school and class to fulfill her mission of educating people.

In 2024, when she heard that Hoa Hong Kindergarten (Hoa Binh ward, Ayun Pa town) needed a teacher to replace a teacher on maternity leave, she applied to teach with a salary of 4.9 million VND/month.

“Next April, when teachers on maternity leave return to work, it means my contract will be terminated and next school year, I don’t know if there will be any schools lacking teachers to apply for a new contract. Everyone encourages me to continue studying at university to have a chance to take the exam for a permanent position, but I still haven’t paid off the 30 million VND loan I borrowed from my student days, so where will I get the money to continue studying?” - Ms. H’Hien sadly said.

“I love my job and I love the children here,” she said proudly about her job. Ms. H’Hien said that besides her family, the trust and love of her colleagues, parents and people around her is a great source of motivation that helps her work hard and improve in life.

Teacher Vu Van Tung (in black shirt) - representative of the 0-dong Bread Cabinet (Ayun Pa town) used the money from the bread cabinet to support Ms. H'Hien with a breeding cow worth 11 million VND.

Knowing about Ms. H'Hien's situation, everyone sympathized. Recently, teacher Vu Van Tung - representative of the 0 VND bread cabinet (Ayun Pa town) donated a breeding cow worth 11 million VND to Ms. H'Hien; and also gave 1 million VND in cash donated by a benefactor.

“Given Ms. H'Hien's difficult situation, my colleagues and I decided to withdraw funds from the bread cabinet to support her somewhat. This is to show gratitude for the contributions of teachers to the cause of educating people, hoping that teachers will still love their profession and children to continue to stick with the teaching job,” Mr. Tung confided.

Ms. Cao Thi Thuyen - Vice Principal of Hoa Hong Kindergarten informed: The whole school has 19 staff, teachers, and employees, including 8 contract teachers. Although the contract teachers' regime has been significantly improved compared to before, it is still limited. Despite the pressure of work and low salary, with love for the profession, the contract teachers are still attached to the school and the class.

“In the case of Ms. H'Hien, although she has just signed a contract with the school, she has always maintained a sense of responsibility and completed assigned tasks. To help her family overcome difficulties and gradually stabilize their lives, the school's Union has allocated funds from the Piggy Bank Fund contributed by the school's union members and mobilized the help of philanthropists to support her family,” Ms. Thuyen shared.
