Coach Pep Guardiola expressed before the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Man City and Real Madrid tomorrow morning (2am, May 18):
"We know how important this game is for us. It's probably one of the most important games since I've been at this club.
We can't deny that. Because of competition, because of opponents, because of many things."
In the first leg at Bernabeu, despite being behind, coach Pep Guardiola's team still managed to equalize 1-1 after Kevin de Bruyne scored.
With the advantage of playing at home at Etihad in the second leg as well as having striker Erling Haaland in good form, coach Pep Guardiola expects to defeat Real Madrid to win a ticket to the final.
"We have to play better than we did in Madrid. Our players have to do as well as they have done over the years.
I lost 7/10 Champions League semi-finals. I lost more than I won, so there are many things you can't control but my only wish is for the team to play at their best," coach Pep Guardiola expressed.
The Spanish strategist also responded to a reporter's question about not being able to help Man City win the Champions League in the past 6 years.
"What I have achieved at Man City is already a legacy. Man City had a bad time before. But it was different when I came here.
In years to come they will remember a generation of players who have scored so many goals and conceded so few in the last five or six years - won so many things and won so much," said manager Pep Guardiola.
However, defender Kyle Walker admitted that Man City are still very eager to win the vacant Champions League title in their collection.
"You just have to look at what Man Utd have achieved in previous years. Man Utd have won loads of trophies.
Man City have also won five Premier League titles in the last six years, and we hope to continue winning them this season.
But the club is missing the Champions League. We owe that to the owners. We were in the Champions League final against Chelsea and we didn't perform at our best.
So we owe it to ourselves because we know we played badly in 2021," defender Kyle Walker affirmed.
