On June 8, Vietnam Post Corporation (Vietnam Post) informed that with the assistance of specialized technology units, the information technology system serving customers and the management and operation activities of Vietnam Post have been restored.

Specifically, with the timely and active support of the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications), the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05), the Ministry of Public Security, the close coordination and timely support of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel), CMC Technology Group, FPT-IS Company and technology partners, along with the efforts of the team of technical staff and technology engineers, Vietnam Post has isolated the incident, protected data, and gradually restored the system in parallel with in-depth investigation and analysis of the cause.

By 10 p.m. on June 7, the information technology system serving customers and the management and operation of Vietnam Post had been restored. All activities related to the services were basically operating normally and no signs of financial loss were recorded. In addition, the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control has coordinated forces to continue collecting and consolidating documents and evidence to serve the investigation and handling of cybercrimes in accordance with the law.

Previously, at 3:10 a.m. on June 4, the information technology system of Vietnam Post Corporation was attacked by hackers who encrypted data (ransomware). As soon as the incident was detected, Vietnam Post quickly activated the action scenario, closely following the instructions of the Information Security Department, and focused all its efforts to handle the incident as soon as possible, ensuring maximum customer benefits and minimizing interruptions in service provision.

A representative of Vietnam Post Corporation said that the incident directly affected the implementation of activities related to postal delivery services. Postal financial services, public administration and goods distribution are still operating normally at this point. Therefore, pension payments are not affected. In the pension and social insurance payment period of June 2024, Vietnam Post Corporation plans to pay more than 3.3 million beneficiaries with a total amount of over VND 18,000 billion.
