On December 19, in Hanoi, the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition and Announcement of the Awards for the Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam" 2023 took place. The contest was organized to encourage people across the country, overseas Vietnamese and international friends to participate in creating photos and videos to promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam to the international community.

28 awarded works
The Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam 2023" is organized for the first time online by the Ministry of Information and Communications, through the Vietnam image promotion platform (https://vietnam.vn).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Information and Communications, said that since the launch of the contest in June 2023, the contest has attracted the participation of more than 7,000 photo and video works. On the Vietnam.vn platform, there have been over 90 million views, many works reaching over half a million views, of which over 40% are from abroad.

“Happy Vietnam is not just a contest, not just a program but also a festival of Vietnamese people speaking up about their happy lives. That happiness appears in every house, every field, every village, every street. That happiness belongs to them because they themselves have created that happiness and they themselves speak up about that happiness,” said Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung.
After 4 months of launching, the Organizing Committee has selected 28 works to award prizes and 70 photos, 14 videos to display at the exhibition. Including: 02 First Prizes worth 100,000,000 VND/prize, 02 Second Prizes worth 30,000,000 VND/prize, 02 Third Prizes worth 20,000,000 VND/prize. The Organizing Committee also awarded 20 Consolation Prizes and a number of other secondary prizes.

First prize in the photo category went to author Bui Cuong Quyet with the work “Flying up to Vietnam”. First prize in the video category went to author Nguyen Thanh Paven with the work “Da Nang - City of Biodiversity”. Second prize in the photo category went to Catalin Chitu with the work “Skyscraper Shrouded in Clouds”. Second prize in the video category went to Vuong Manh Cuong with the work “Nha Trang, the sea calls”. Third prize in the photo category went to author Hieu Minh Vu with the work “A bumper crop of red tangerines”. Third prize in the video category went to author Le Tan Thanh with the work “Growing flax, weaving - traditional cultural identity of the Mong people”. |
Each work is a unique beauty.
The author who won the second prize in the contest with the photo "Skyscraper Shrouded in Clouds", Mr. Catalin Chitu (39 years old, Romanian) said that the photo was taken of Landmark 81 building (Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh city) in September 2021. At that time, Vietnam was in social distancing due to Covid-19. The only thing he saw for 3 months was the skyscraper through the window. That beauty made him decide to take out his camera and take this photo.

“Happy Vietnam is an opportunity for me to spread beautiful images of Vietnam not only to the Romanian people but also to the whole world. I hope this contest will continue to be held in the coming years and there will be more photographers and more beautiful works about Vietnam”, Mr. Catalin Chitu shared.
Ms. Luc Thi Nien (born in 1989, Cao Bang) brought to the contest the work “Morning Sunlight in the Highlands” capturing the image of the Quay Son River in her hometown of Trung Khanh, Cao Bang. “The photo was taken on an autumn morning, when the sunlight shone through the bamboo groves - a characteristic of Cao Bang province. Through the contest, I want to spread the beautiful image of my hometown to friends at home and abroad,” Ms. Nien said.

More than 7,000 works participated, each work is a unique perspective, a unique moment, an interesting story, a beauty, a reflection that life, heaven and earth bestow upon humans, if not recorded at that exact moment, that exact place, it will be lost and if not recorded, it will be a loss.
Through the works of the contest, readers can feel a peaceful, beautiful Vietnam, which is developing dynamically with a strong desire to become a powerful, civilized, rich and happy nation. The works participating in the contest will be a source of authentic and vivid documents, conveying beautiful and multi-dimensional images of Vietnam, creating opportunities for everyone, wherever they are, to experience the close, sincere and warm life in all regions of our country.

On June 15, the Department of External Information (Ministry of Information and Communications) launched the "Happy Vietnam 2023" photo and video contest with the theme "For everyone's happiness" for Vietnamese people and foreigners around the world. The contest aims to encourage groups and individuals to participate in promoting the image of Vietnam with a prize structure of up to 400 million VND. |
The Exhibition and Award Announcement Program of the Photo and Video Contest “Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam 2023” will take place at 7:00 p.m. on December 19 at the Hanoi Opera House. The program will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV4). |
