Previously, goalkeeper Kim Thanh of the Vietnamese women's team had also been praised by FIFA many times, especially for her excellent save in the match against former champion USA in the opening match. The goalkeeper from Long An blocked the penalty of "legend" Alex Morgan. It was the first time in 20 years that the US women's team had a penalty blocked in a women's world football finals.
Sharing about this achievement, Kim Thanh said: “This is the first time Thanh and the Vietnamese women's team have participated in this arena. Being named in the list of goalkeepers with the most saves is a great honor for me. Thanh will take this as motivation to continue to practice harder.”
Meanwhile, in the category of successful ball blocking index at the 2023 Women's World Cup, defender Tran Thi Thu is the one with the highest average index in 90 minutes of play with 5.9 points. Sharing the same index with Tran Thi Thu is midfielder Bambanani Mbane from South Africa. Another name of the Vietnamese women's team also mentioned in this list is defender Le Thi Diem My with 5.3 points, ranked 4th, after midfielder Danielle van de Donk of the Netherlands women's team.
Tran Thi Thu is one of the best defenders of the Vietnamese women's team at the 2023 World Cup.
The remaining names on the list include: midfielder Thea Bjelde (Norway), center back Sophia Braun (Argentina), striker Fabiola Villalobos (Costa Rica), midfielder Elin Rubensson (Sweden), midfielder Christy Ucheibe (Nigeria) and midfielder Katherine Alvarado (Costa Rica).
Tran Thi Thu and Le Thi Diem My are two players arranged by coach Mai Duc Chung in the starting lineup for three matches of the Vietnamese women's team at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. These two defenders have shown determination and played with all their might throughout most of the Vietnamese women's team's matches at the biggest women's football tournament on the planet.
Currently, Tran Thi Thu and Kim Thanh are training with their teammates in the Vietnamese women's team in Hai Phong, preparing for the 19th Asian Games held in China this coming September.
