Along with the task of building a strong association, in recent years, the Farmers’ Association of Viet Tri City has made many efforts in supporting farmers, notably supporting the construction of many “Farmer’s Compassion” houses as well as providing capital for production and business development. Since then, many positive results have been achieved, helping farmers get rich and sustainably reduce poverty.
The house "Farmer's affection" was built by the Farmers' Association of Viet Tri City and local authorities, and organizations at all levels to support the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Quy in Zone 1, Kim Duc Commune.
Kim Duc commune has 1,384 farmer members, of which 3 are poor households. The family of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Quy in Zone 1 is one of the 3 remaining poor farmer households in the commune. This year, Mrs. Quy is 73 years old, her husband, Mr. Nguyen Van Than, passed away a year ago due to a brain tumor. Previously, Mrs. Quy and her husband farmed and raised livestock. Due to seasonal and unstable work, poor health, and a difficult life, they lived in a dilapidated temporary house.
In 2023, implementing the policy of eliminating temporary houses in the area, the Kim Duc Commune Farmers' Association advised the local government to coordinate with organizations to mobilize and build a new, spacious house for Mrs. Quy and her husband. On June 27, 2023, the house was started with support from the Viet Tri City Farmers' Association, Viet Tri City Youth Union, and contributions from relatives and supporting families. After more than a month of urgent construction, the solid level 4 house including a living room, 2 bedrooms, 1 kitchen and auxiliary works was completed.
The “Farmer’s Love” house is a great consolation and encouragement for the elderly couple. They have a place to “settle down” to “settle down” and work to support their old age. Comrade Nguyen Thanh Tuan - Chairman of the People’s Committee of Kim Duc Commune said: “Residential housing is one of the important criteria in the process of building an advanced new rural area in Kim Duc Commune. Spacious and safe housing contributes to building the face of the countryside and improving the quality of life of the people. Associations at all levels, including the Farmers’ Association, have actively contributed to the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the area”.
Not only supporting housing construction costs, the Farmers' Association of Viet Tri City also supports farmers with loans to develop production and business. Kim Duc Commune is one of the localities with a large agricultural land fund in the city. Due to the terrain characteristics, people can only grow one rice crop, the remaining crop has low economic efficiency due to flooding. Therefore, the area of seasonal agricultural land is relatively abandoned.
Faced with that reality, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Kim Duc commune have issued a policy to convert the crop from rice cultivation to aquaculture with an area of 60 hectares. In 2024, the Farmers' Association of Viet Tri City disbursed VND 500 million to support 10 members of the aquaculture professional association to expand the area as well as the quality of commercial output.
The one-crop aquaculture model of the Kim Duc Commune Farmers' Association received a loan from the farmer support fund.
Pointing to the Cay field (Zone 9, Kim Duc commune), Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh - Director of Kim Duc General Service Cooperative and also one of 10 members of the aquaculture professional association said: "In just one month, full batches of fish will be pulled up here. 10 years ago, this rice field was covered with duckweed during the harvest season, the water surface was dense. Thanks to the bold conversion, each year, the aquaculture area alone for one crop has yielded approximately 6 tons of fish/ha, with economic efficiency dozens of times higher than rice cultivation."
Promoting the role of farmers as the main subject in agricultural development, rural economy and new rural construction, Viet Tri City has established 13 clubs of good farmers and businessmen with 7,621 farmer households registering for the title of good farmers and businessmen at all levels in 2024. Many economic models of households, branches and professional farmer associations help each other to form product consumption chains that bring high economic efficiency.
Comrade Phan Thanh Duong - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Viet Tri City said: "Currently, the capital source of the city's farmer support fund has been disbursed to 12 projects with 4.1 billion VND for 85 households to borrow. In the coming time, the Association will continue to coordinate with the Bank for Social Policies, Provincial Branch to effectively implement credit programs for poor households and other policy beneficiaries. In addition, the Association has transferred loan capital through 43 savings groups to 1,264 households with a total outstanding loan of 41.1 billion VND".
Replicating typical good production and business models along with effective disbursement of capital sources are practical actions that contribute to sustainable poverty reduction and actively contribute to the new rural construction of Viet Tri City.
