Forest fire prevention and control in Hoang Lien

A forest fire prevention and fighting drill organized by Hoang Lien - Van Ban Nature Reserve. The drill not only improved the skills of nearly 100 forest fire prevention and fighting forces in the communes but also raised awareness among students. The specialized unit coordinated with schools to organize a golden bell contest to help students understand the importance of forests and measures to protect and develop forests.

Ly Thanh Dai, a student at Nam Xe Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Van Ban District, shared: “The program has helped us gain more knowledge and know how to prevent and fight forest fires. We also know how to effectively propagate fire prevention and fighting to everyone.”

To prepare for the new planting season, Ms. Trieu Thi Lai’s family in Tu Ha village, Nam Xay commune, Van Ban district has burned and cleared the ground cover on the fields and hills. This work is closely monitored by the forest protection team to prevent any unexpected incidents. Ms. Lai shared: “We burn in the evening, afternoon, or early morning to prevent it from spreading. We have to clear a wide path, then burn slowly.”

Closely following the area to propagate to each household about forest protection measures, forest fire prevention and control, especially how to use fire safely during the dry season is a regular task of local forest rangers and village forest protection teams. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, Hoang Lien - Van Ban Nature Reserve organized 16 propaganda conferences, with over 1,000 participants, 98 mobile propaganda sessions, adding 7 forecast and warning signs, 136 fire prohibition signs in areas with high risk of fire.

Mr. Lo Van Ngoan, Head of the Hoang Lien - Van Ban Nature Reserve Management Board said: "In addition to practicing the plan as well as opening training and coaching classes, we organize commitments with each household so that households strictly comply with regulations on forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting."

Mr. Ma Duc Manh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Xe Commune, Van Ban District emphasized: "The locality coordinates with the Forest Ranger Station of Hoang Lien - Van Ban Nature Reserve. There is very close coordination to propagate through the loudspeaker system three times a day during peak hours."

With many synchronous and drastic solutions in forest resource management, Hoang Lien - Van Ban Nature Reserve is always well protected. Over the past 6 years, this area has not had any forest fires.
