Professor reminds new students to dare to say no to temptation

That was the message of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, sent to nearly 5,200 new students at the opening ceremony on October 16.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha said that students need to overcome current difficulties and turn their dreams and ambitions into reality. The achievements they have today and in the future do not only come from the support from the school but also from their own efforts.

Students need to have a positive and proactive attitude towards learning, set clear learning goals, and be ready to acquire new knowledge in a rapidly changing and internationalizing technological environment.

According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, students need to learn how to adapt to the university environment, quickly settle down to integrate into urban life. Study with a proactive, creative spirit, and be steadfast with your goals and study plans.

Students should not forget to regularly improve their personal skills through professional and extracurricular activities, focusing on foreign language and computer skills to easily access world knowledge and careers after graduation.

Through that, it also aims to train the spirit of responsibility for oneself and the community, positive attitude, promote the spirit of discipline, compassion for people and the country to create core values.

"In particular, you should always be clear-headed and resolute in saying no to unhealthy temptations around you to focus on your studies and your goals," the professor advised.

The President of Ho Chi Minh City Open University also expressed that students' education is one of the significant expenses for them and their families. Each year, the school spends more than 40 billion VND to support more than 7,000 scholarships, students need to make efforts to win these scholarships.

Right at the beginning of the school year, the school awarded scholarships to more than 490 new students with excellent achievements in the 2024 enrollment period with a total value of nearly 4 billion VND.

Among them, new student Pham Thi Phuong, majoring in English, was the top student in the school's entrance exam based on high school graduation exam scores with a score of 27.65 and was awarded a scholarship of 200% of the first year's tuition and 100% of the tuition for the following years.

It is known that continuously in recent years, the rate of graduates having jobs within one year after graduating from the school has reached over 90%, including some majors with a 100% employment rate.

On October 9, Ho Chi Minh City Open University was one of nine higher education institutions in Vietnam included in the world rankings of global higher education institutions in 2025 (THE-WUR 2025).

The other eight universities ranked include Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Hue University and Ho Chi Minh City National University.
