Contributing a speech at the National Scientific Conference with the theme "Cultural and artistic heritage of Nguyen Dinh Thi for today" on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great cultural figure and talented artist Nguyen Dinh Thi (December 20, 1924 - December 20, 2024), Professor Ha Minh Duc affirmed that "The star Nguyen Dinh Thi has shone brightly in the sky."

Also at the event jointly organized by the Hanoi Party Committee, the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art, and Nhan Dan Newspaper on the afternoon of December 12 in Hanoi, scientists, researchers, artists, and managers unanimously affirmed that Nguyen Dinh Thi is one of the outstanding names in Vietnamese literature and art with great contributions to the cause of building and developing the country's culture and art.

An example of dedication of talent and passion

“With his outstanding creative talent, passionate patriotism and steadfast revolutionary ideology, Nguyen Dinh Thi has left us a great, rich cultural and artistic heritage with lasting vitality. Nguyen Dinh Thi's life of revolutionary activities and artistic creation is a beautiful example for generations of artists today and tomorrow. He is an example of an artist who is proactive, struggling in the reality of revolutionary struggle, willing to devote his talent and passion to serving the Fatherland, the people and the glorious cause of the Party,” emphasized Politburo member and Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia.

At the conference, scientists, researchers, artists, and managers shared the view that Nguyen Dinh Thi is one of the most talented artists in the country's literary and artistic community. He writes in many fields, from poetry, novels, theory, literary criticism, to philosophical research, translation, theater, music, etc.

It is valuable that in any field, Nguyen Dinh Thi has made great contributions, inheriting the quintessence of national culture and art, while at the same time exploring and innovating in a scientific and modern direction.

"All of his works in all genres follow a consistent motto: innovation. He believes that with a new life, a new social system, and new public tastes, literature and art must be innovative," said Professor Ha Minh Duc.

Nguyen Dinh Thi's poetry has a very unique, modern, concise, and musical style. He is a brave writer, always present at the front lines of the nation's arduous but heroic resistance. Like many generations of writers and artists who matured during the resistance war against the French, Nguyen Dinh Thi soon used his pen as a weapon to fight for the cause of national liberation.

He studied and wrote books on Western philosophical schools and secretly read and studied Marxist philosophy, participating in Viet Minh activities since the age of seventeen. With a passionate patriotism and noble ideals, Nguyen Dinh Thi actively participated in the National Salvation Cultural Association since 1943, directly in charge of the Independence newspaper.

From the life and career of Nguyen Dinh Thi, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed his hope that the artists will continuously learn and draw valuable lessons from previous generations to continue to commit, be steadfast and constantly develop on the creative journey.

On this occasion, the Head of the Central Propaganda Department requested scientists, artists and relevant agencies to continue to focus on researching and honoring Nguyen Dinh Thi's important contributions to the country's revolutionary literature and art; step up the work of preserving and promoting his works to a wide audience at home and abroad.

The person who leaves behind a cultural heritage has lasting vitality.

Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art, Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen The Ky assessed Nguyen Dinh Thi as one of the great names of modern Vietnamese culture and art, intelligent, multi-talented, and excellent in many fields.

Evidence for the above comments about the culturalist Nguyen Dinh Thi with the country’s literature and art are his countless representative works. In particular, the two-volume novel “Broken Bank” has brought Nguyen Dinh Thi to the pioneering position of the heroic and romantic epic novel genre of our country’s literature in the period 1946-1985.

In the poetry genre, he left behind immortal works such as “Country,” “Remember,” “Black Sea Poem,” “Red Leaves”... which are vivid evidence of his love and deep attachment to the country and people of Vietnam. That is a strong creative personality, a pioneering spirit, and a concern to find new directions in modern Vietnamese poetry.

On stage, the unexpected appearance of the scripts “Black Deer” (1961), “Flowers and Ngan” (1974), “Dream” (1977), “Bamboo Forest” (1978), “Nguyen Trai in Dong Quan” (1979), “Petrified Woman” (1980), “Sound of Waves” (1980), “Shadow on the Wall” (1982), “Truong Chi” (1983), “Pebble” (1986)... exuded Nguyen Dinh Thi’s artistic talent, artistic creativity, and always finding his own way.

In the field of music, although he only had 6 songs in his composing career: “Hatred,” “Destroy Fascism,” “Guerrilla Army” (1945), “Hanoi People” (1947), “Elephant” (1948), “Lovely Country” (1977), Nguyen Dinh Thi still affirmed his strong creative imprint, the beautiful and humane soul of an artist - soldier. He successfully fulfilled his role of creating a connection between art and revolution in the context of the country changing and the revolution boiling.

Nguyen Dinh Thi once confided during his lifetime: “I dare not call myself a musician.” However, just the two songs “Die fascist” and “Nguoi Ha Noi” composed in his twenties were enough for him to be honored as a great musician, along with Van Cao, Do Nhuan, Luu Huu Phuoc… paving the way for Vietnamese revolutionary music. Nguyen Dinh Thi’s songs have become a part of the nation’s historical memory, arousing pride in his homeland and country…

Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen The Ky emphasized: “Nguyen Dinh Thi has left behind a huge cultural legacy with works of multifaceted value, living forever with time. The success of his works is evident in their ideology, humanity, unique art, and liberal yet refined writing style. There, patriotism is blended with revolutionary ideals, national character and modernity, absorbing the quintessence of world culture, especially French, Russian, European culture, the desire for freedom and the kind, gentle nature that is very Vietnamese.”

The workshop recorded many enthusiastic contributions from scientists, researchers, artists, managers, exchanging, discussing, and evaluating Nguyen Dinh Thi's contributions to Vietnamese revolutionary literature and art; analyzing and clarifying the factors that create great value and lasting vitality of his works; further elucidating Nguyen Dinh Thi's contributions in the fields of theory, criticism, and cultural and artistic management...

Also at the workshop, delegates exchanged, discussed and evaluated the journey of receiving and spreading Nguyen Dinh Thi's cultural and artistic heritage at home and abroad; analyzed and explained the career, contributions and great cultural and artistic heritage values ​​that Nguyen Dinh Thi left for today and tomorrow, in the process of continuing innovation, development and integration of the country's literature and art.

The results of the workshop are the basis for the organizing committee to build scientific arguments to advise the Party and State to build, supplement, and perfect viewpoints, guidelines, policies, and appropriate solutions in recognizing and honoring the great contributions of Nguyen Dinh Thi in particular and artists in general; preserving and promoting the value of literature and art in the cause of building, protecting, and developing the country./.
