On March 23, 1975, we liberated Gia Nghia town. The Zone 5 Party Committee determined to speed up the attack to liberate the entire area. The Hue liberation campaign developed smoothly.

- In the direction of the Central Highlands, on the afternoon of March 23, 1975, Division 320 advanced along Highway 7 to Cung Son district, where thousands of troops, dozens of tanks, armored vehicles... the enemy gathered to find a way to continue running to Tuy Hoa.

On the night of March 23, 1975, the 1st and 2nd Regiments (Division 324) surrounded, destroyed and captured thousands of soldiers of the 1st Division of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam in Phu Thu.

At 5:00 a.m. on March 23, 1975, Gia Nghia town and Khiem Duc district were completely liberated. The Liberation Army took control of Route 14 connecting Buon Ma Thuot with Binh Phuoc, opening the Ho Chi Minh Trail from the Southern Central Highlands to the Southeast.

- At 8:00 a.m. on March 23, 1975, the troops of the 101st Regiment of the 325th Division attacked and quickly took control of Luong Dien base, promptly opening the way for the 324th Division to advance to the plains. Our artillery fired at Phu Bai airport, Tay Loc, and the headquarters of the 1st Corps of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam in Mang Ca.

The 2nd Corps deployed to penetrate deep into the Thuan An seaport, blocking the enemy's only remaining escape route to the sea, forming a large encirclement from the south of Hue to Hai Van Pass.

The 2nd Battalion, 101st Regiment, 325th Division attacked La Son, Ke Bang, then went down to block the Cau Truoi gate (north of Luong Dien base). The 7th Battalion, 101st Regiment attacked along the Cau Hai area, occupied Xuan Lo, blocked the enemy's way to the sea, then expanded to occupy Ban Mon.

At 4:30 p.m. the same day, Regiment 101 liberated Luong Dien, cleared the enemy north of Truoi Bridge, and then followed Route 1 straight to Phu Bai.

On March 23, 1975, in the direction of Division 324, the 4th Tank Company from A Luoi promptly moved in to coordinate with the infantry to fight the enemy. In the afternoon, the company coordinated with Battalion 1 to suddenly attack and occupy Base 303, Nui Bong, Nui Nghe, then advanced down Highway 1 with Regiment 101 to attack Phu Bai. The 78th Artillery Regiment moved down to La Son, Cau Truoi to support the infantry fighting in the front.

On the night of March 23, 1975, after reaching Phu Loc plain, Regiments 1 and 2 of Division 324 urgently developed towards Thuan An estuary, destroying the enemy's intention to evacuate a part of the force in Thua Thien-Hue through this estuary.

North of Hue, the 3rd, 14th, and 812th battalions of the Quang Tri local army finished organizing their formations. The 18th Regiment (325th Division) captured Mui Ne, then developed the attack and destroyed the Phu Loc Military Sub-region - district capital.

On March 22 and 23, 1975, in the north of Hue, our artillery fired heavily at Thuan An estuary and Tan My port. On March 23, 1975, on the eastern flank, supported by tanks from the Tri-Thien Military Region, the 3rd Quang Tri Battalion attacked and captured Huong Dien district, destroyed Thanh Huong position, forcing the enemy to retreat.

- On the same day, the Standing Committee of the Regional Party Committee and the Military Region 5 Command decided to concentrate all forces, accelerate the attack speed, destroy the 2nd Division of the Republic of Vietnam, liberate Tam Ky (Quang Nam) and Quang Ngai province, carry out a strategic division, and create a springboard to attack Da Nang from the south.

- On March 23, 1975, the Ba Gia Regiment was reinforced by Battalion 8 (Regiment 31), Battalion 5 (Regiment 38) and 10 tanks and armored vehicles to attack in the main direction, breaking through the enemy's blockade from Suoi Da to the north bank of the Tam Ky River. Battalion 4 and Battalion 6 (Regiment 38, Division 2) destroyed the 37th and 39th battalions of the Republic of Vietnam special forces, occupying the areas of Cam Khe 2, Khanh Tho Dong, and Duc Tam.

On the night of March 23, 1975, the 9th Battalion's assault team, secretly guided by guerrillas, infiltrated and approached Truong Xuan Junction, preparing to attack Quang Ngai town. A battalion of the 52nd Regiment rushed to Quang Ngai to prepare to attack the town.

- On the An Khe side, after a day of fighting, on March 23, 1975, Regiment 12, Division 3 destroyed nearly 20 outer blocking positions and then divided into many groups to attack straight into the town, killing and capturing thousands of enemies, seizing many weapons and war vehicles of the enemy, completely liberating An Khe town.
