Steel price today 3/21/2025 on the international market

On March 21, 2025, steel prices in the international market continued to be under downward pressure due to concerns about weak demand from China and the escalating global trade war. Rebar for October 2025 delivery on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) fell 11 yuan to 3,244 yuan/ton.

Iron ore for May delivery on the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) fell 1.18% to 756.5 yuan ($104.60) a tonne, its lowest since January 10, 2025, while the benchmark April iron ore on the Singapore Exchange fell 0.45% to $99.80 a tonne, its lowest since March 12, 2025.

Other steelmaking ingredients such as coking coal on the DCE also fell, down 0.73% and 1.33% respectively. On the Shanghai Futures Exchange, rebar fell 0.88%, hot-rolled coil fell 0.51%, stainless steel fell 0.31%, but wire rod edged up 0.41%. The EU's move to tighten steel import quotas (down 15% from April) and protectionist policies from many countries are putting pressure on Chinese steel exports, reducing demand for raw materials. Citi forecasts that steel demand in real estate and exports will fall by 10% and 4-5% respectively in 2025, amid weak iron ore prices despite the suspension of shipments from the Onslow Iron project in Western Australia. The international steel market is expected to continue to face many challenges in the coming time.
