In recent days, durian prices in the province have continued to decrease. |
According to records, since the beginning of April, the price of durian in the area has continuously decreased. Many gardeners sell durian at low prices, so they do not make a profit. The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi My Linh (Tan Phong commune, Cai Lay district) grows more than 1 hectare of Thai and Ri 6 durian.
Since the Lunar New Year, her family has harvested three times. During the full moon of January, her family sold durian for 45,000 VND/kg; 20 days ago, she sold it for 80,000 VND/kg. At this price, her family makes very little profit.
Businesses, traders, and gardeners are all facing difficulties in selling durian. |
According to the leader of Tan Phong Commune People's Committee, in recent days, gardeners in the commune have not harvested much durian. However, the selling price of durian is also very cheap. Accordingly, currently Ri 6 durian bought at the garden costs an average of about 40,000 VND/kg, Thai durian is about 60,000 VND/kg.
Currently, farmers in the area are preparing to enter the favorable season, but with current prices, durian growers will have difficulties. Durian prices are currently very unstable.
In Cai Be district, in recent days, following the general trend, durian prices have also continuously decreased. Mr. Huynh Thanh Nha, a durian trader in Cai Be district, said that durian prices are currently decreasing sharply.
Accordingly, Ri 6 durian bought at the garden is currently priced from 35,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, Monthong durian (Thai) is priced from 60,000 - 65,000 VND/kg. Currently, many warehouses have stopped harvesting, only a few warehouses collect Thai durian. Ri 6 durian is still consumed in the markets, so the consumption situation is relatively more stable than Thai goods.
Mr. Nha added: “Currently, durian prices have decreased by 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg compared to last month. Last month, Thai durian grade A in warehouses cost 120,000 - 125,000 VND/kg, Ri 6 grade A cost 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg. Grade A goods are priced 20,000 VND/kg higher than grade B on average.
Currently, the supply of durian in the area is not much. Durian in Dong Thap province and Can Tho city is starting to be harvested. In particular, the eastern provinces are preparing for the season. Due to the fall in durian prices, in recent days, traders have asked gardeners to reduce prices. Gardeners are not making a profit because durian prices are continuously falling.

Durian warehouses are returning goods because the Cadimi testing site has stopped operating or only a few places test Cadimi. Now the warehouse has to send samples for Cadimi testing before customs can clear them. If the durian fails, it will be destroyed or turned back. In general, the durian export situation is very difficult. Now, the warehouses are waiting for China to make a new move to see what happens because this consumption situation is very unstable.
According to a durian exporting enterprise in Cai Lay district, the situation of durian export is very difficult. Previously, the enterprise mainly purchased and exported durian to the Chinese market. However, due to difficulties in export, mainly due to China's tightening of cadmium inspection, the enterprise has temporarily stopped exporting durian to this market.
Currently, the supply in Tien Giang is not much, so collecting goods is very difficult. Not to mention, businesses may face risks if the shipment is contaminated with Cadmium. Therefore, recently, the company has shifted its durian export direction to the Taiwanese market.
In fact, recently, the export of durian from our country in general and Tien Giang province in particular to the Chinese market has encountered many difficulties due to technical barriers. Of these, the two most difficult problems are controlling the residue of Cadmium and Yellow O.
According to Mr. Vo Tan Loi, Chairman of the Tien Giang Province Durian Association, to buy a full container of about 20 tons, businesses must buy from many gardens, and if they cannot test all of them, they are most likely to get cadmium. Currently, the durian industry is facing many difficulties. Businesses are facing difficulties and do not dare to export, so many companies have closed down. The Durian Association has sent a petition to the Provincial People's Committee to resolve the difficulties.
The first recommendation is to publicize the Cadmium testing costs of testing laboratories recognized by China and Vietnam on official media channels.
At the same time, it is recommended that the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tien Giang province coordinate with the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection to open an additional testing center in Tien Giang to facilitate the appraisal and certification of durian quality more quickly.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment needs to support the implementation of model durian cultivation models that meet safety standards, limit pesticide residues and heavy metals in durian. This is to create a premise for export enterprises to expand the cultivation model in associated growing areas.
