Rach Mieu 2 Bridge closed on April 19

The bridge connecting Tien Giang and Ben Tre is being constructed with the final block of casting to be closed on April 19, 4 months earlier than expected. On the afternoon of April 11, My Thuan Project Management Board (project investor) said that the project is currently 85% complete. The main bridge section, two towers P19, P20 and 112 cable bundles have been completed. 13 blocks of casting the bridge deck have also been completed, and the units are constructing the final 5-meter long casting block.

7 km of road has been paved with asphalt concrete, reaching 50% and will be completed in June. The project has completed 4 bridges on the route including Xoai Hot, My Tho, Tam Son and Ba Lai bridges, and Song Ma bridge will be completed in 2 months. It is expected that all items of Rach Mieu 2 bridge will be completed and put into operation in August.

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge crosses the Tien River, connecting Tien Giang and Ben Tre, about 4 km upstream from the existing bridge. The project is more than 17 km long, with the starting point connecting Dong Tam intersection (the intersection between National Highway 1 and Provincial Road 870) in Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province; the end point connecting National Highway 60, in Ben Tre City, nearly one km from Ham Luong Bridge.

The main bridge is over 1.9 km long and is designed as a cable-stayed bridge, with a 113 m high tower, 4 lanes, 21.5 m wide, and a design speed of 80 km/h.

The project, with a total investment of more than VND 6,800 billion, started construction in March 2022 and is expected to be completed in early 2026. However, after inspecting the project, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that the project be completed earlier than planned in time for the National Day holiday on September 2, 2025.

The contractor then mobilized 150 pieces of equipment, 500 workers and 83 technical staff to deploy 30 construction teams in 3 shifts, 4 teams, and across the country. The project was qualified to be closed about 4 months ahead of schedule and completed the entire project 3 months ahead of the Prime Minister's direction.

When completed, Rach Mieu 2 Bridge will help "share the burden" of the existing bridge, which is often overloaded on weekends, holidays, and Tet.
