Strengthen monitoring and supervision

Actively managing, monitoring and inspecting collective kitchens, especially school kitchens, right from the beginning of the school year is one of the important tasks contributing to ensuring food safety and preventing food poisoning incidents in schools. Through inspection and monitoring, the inspection team also coordinates to propagate and guide school units to properly implement legal regulations on food safety.

For their part, determining that ensuring food safety is an urgent issue directly related to students' health, schools with collective kitchens have proactively implemented food safety regulations. Through inspection, most schools have implemented food safety regulations well.

Ms. Dang Thi Hien Trang - Head of the private independent class Clover (26 Hoang Van Thu, Pleiku City) shared: "The class has 85 children. In order for the children to have quality and safe meals, we not only create a menu that ensures nutrition but also focus on food safety processing, the kitchen follows the one-way principle. All staff are equipped with food safety knowledge. All imported food sources have a clear origin and raw material purchase contract".

During the inspection at Hoa Phong Lan Kindergarten (154/6 Le Loi, Pleiku City), the working group recognized the strict implementation of food safety regulations of the unit. Ms. Dang Thi Tinh - Head of the kitchen team of Hoa Phong Lan Kindergarten - said: "When receiving food, the kitchen staff checks and only accepts if the food is of guaranteed quality and freshness. The kitchen is organized in accordance with regulations. Compliance with the kitchen regulations helps children have safe meals, ensuring health and nutrition. We have not had any food poisoning incidents."

In the 2024-2025 school year, Hoa Phong Lan Kindergarten has over 500 students in 13 classes. “Determining that food safety is very important, the school assigns specialized staff to monitor and supervise regularly. Not only does the school develop a scientific and nutritious menu, it also pays special attention to food processing. The People's Inspection Committee established by parents can conduct surprise inspections of the collective kitchen.

With strict and synchronous management, since its operation, the school's collective kitchen has not had any food poisoning or food safety violations," emphasized Principal Tran Thi Thoa.

Ensuring school food safety

Along with improving the quality of education, the Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities always strives to ensure food safety in the collective kitchen. Despite the difficult conditions, the school has organized well the care and nutrition of students through each meal with sufficient quality and quantity, ensuring food safety, helping them to have good health to study well.

Mr. Vo Thanh Nguyen - Principal of the Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities - informed: The school has 400 students and 100% of students eat and live at the school. From July 2024, the policy scholarship for students will increase to 1,872,000 VND/month. To ensure the students' nutrition, the school has agreed with their families on the policy scholarship for students, which is currently 50,000 VND/3 meals/day.

“The school tries to ensure that the students have meals of sufficient quality and quantity. The school pays special attention to ensuring food safety in the collective kitchen according to regulations; implementing 3-step food inspection, one-way kitchen and all kitchen staff have regular health check-ups, have knowledge of food safety and strictly follow regulations in food processing.

In the near future, the school will invest funds to build a new dining area for students, creating better conditions to ensure food safety," said Mr. Nguyen.

Evaluating the recent inspection, Mr. Do Tan Thanh - Deputy Head of the Provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Department - commented: The schools have implemented quite well the regulations on ensuring food safety in school kitchens; ensuring full procedures and legal documents according to regulations; and the facilities have been invested in and built to meet the conditions.

In addition, all schools are aware and proactive in implementing food safety. The Department continues to inspect and supervise; at the same time, step up propaganda so that schools in particular and food production, processing and trading establishments in general raise awareness of good compliance with regulations in the field of food safety.
