*Pig price in the North today
On the morning of October 28, the live pig market in the North continued to decrease in Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang and Hanoi, reaching the same level of 62,000 VND/kg.
Currently, this area is trading at around 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg. Of which, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Thai Binh are the three provinces that still maintain the price of 63,000 VND/kg, the highest in the country.
*Pig price in the Central Highlands region
The Central Highlands region moved sideways at around 58,000 - 61,000 VND/kg this morning. This is currently the lowest trading area in the country, with 4 provinces having live hog prices below 60,000 VND/kg, including: Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak.
At the same time, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Lam Dong are the localities that buy live pigs at 61,000 VND/kg, the highest in the region.
*Pig price in the Southern region
In the Southern market, only Ba Ria - Vung Tau recorded a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, to 61,000 VND/kg, the same price as most localities in the region.
Accordingly, live pigs in the South are being bought and sold at a difference of 59,000 - 62,000 VND/kg. Of which, the lowest price in the region is 59,000 VND/kg recorded in Ben Tre.
* China's pork output has faced a significant decline, falling for the third consecutive quarter, as the country continues to experience fluctuations in the pork industry, mainly due to market and environmental factors.
According to official data, China's pork output in the third quarter of 2024 is expected to decline sharply compared to the same period in 2023 due to a number of factors, including the prolonged impact of African Swine Fever (ASF), market disruptions and rising feed costs, pressures that have led to a reduction in herd size and production capacity nationwide.
Despite efforts to stabilize the market, the reduced supply of pork has impacted prices and caused instability. Many producers have been forced to adjust their operations, focusing on cost management and livestock efficiency to overcome challenging market fluctuations.
Industry experts predict that recovery will take time as structural adjustments are needed to enhance biosecurity, herd health and sustainability in production. Furthermore, the evolving preferences of Chinese consumers are expected to play a major role in shaping the future of the pork industry.
While the third consecutive quarterly decline has demonstrated the current difficulties, manufacturers and market stakeholders are now looking to government intervention to help restore stability and growth.
As the world’s largest pork consumer, China’s pork production trends remain crucial to global markets. Continued declines in production are likely to impact not only domestic prices, but also international pork trade in the coming quarters.
