Green manufacturing leaders

Denmark, South Korea and the United States are typical countries in green production as well as green goals in their strategies to respond to climate change and create a green foundation for the economy and national development.

Denmark – The leading country in green development

Denmark has banned the use of various types of bags and packaging. 20% of Denmark's total energy consumption is wind power. Windmill manufacturers have achieved technological breakthroughs, so the cost of producing wind power is equivalent to that of electricity from a thermal power plant. Denmark is the first country in the world to get 1/3 of its electricity consumption from wind turbines.

Danish wind energy group Vestas' V236-15.0 MW wind turbine prototype produced 363 megawatt-hours (MWh) over a 24-hour period.

Vestas installed the 15 megawatt (MW) offshore wind turbine at the Østerild national test center for large wind turbines in West Jutland, Denmark in December 2022. The turbine was tested and verified for its features and specifications. In April 2023, the turbine reached its full power of 15 MW for the first time.

In December 2023, Danish energy group Orsted announced the construction of the world's largest offshore wind farm, Hornsea 3, off the coast of England. Hornsea 3 will have a capacity of 2.9 GW and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

The wind farm, located 100 miles off the Yorkshire coast, is expected to be able to power more than 3.3 million homes. Orsted currently operates 12 offshore wind farms in the UK, including Hornsea 1 and 2.

Once the new turbines are operational, Orsted in Hornsea – which includes the Hornsea 1, 2 and 3 offshore wind farms – will have a total capacity of more than 5GW, making it the largest offshore wind farm in the world.

South Korea continues to promote green consumption

South Korea issued a stimulus package called the “New Green Growth Agreement” (January 2009) worth 50 trillion won over 4 years with 9 green projects, creating 956,000 jobs.

Starting in 2011, South Korea spent about $60 billion over five years on green development, creating more than 1.8 million jobs. During this period, South Korea also established a “green payment card” system to stimulate the consumption of green goods. With the support of this card, the use of green goods and energy-saving products is becoming more and more popular in this country.

With the slogan “All for a prosperous community”, the Korean government has been remarkably successful in encouraging the active participation of citizens for the development of the community. This success is recognized through projects such as: 2 million green house, Greener city and river, Solar city…

In addition, the Korean government encourages people to use bicycles to protect the environment, and Korean people's awareness of green living has also been raised. Thanks to the increased social awareness of green living, the number of families participating in the carbon emission reduction system increased to 2 million in February 2011.

According to the Korean government, green growth brings a new phase to economic development. Green growth will be a guiding principle for development for Korea. Korea will promote economic activities based on three principles: Maintaining efficient economic activities while minimizing the use of energy and resources; minimizing environmental pressure with the use of each energy and resource; and investing in the environment as a tool for economic development.

South Korea aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

US: Improving green manufacturing techniques

The US has chosen alternative energy development as the main direction for green economic development. The world's largest economy aims to have 65% of its energy consumption and 35% of its heat generated from solar panels by 2030.

According to the "Renewable Energy Outlook" study conducted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) of the US Department of Energy, Washington is one of the world's largest producers of renewable energy, a pioneer in this field, and can produce electricity largely from renewable energy by 2050.

In its energy conservation strategy, the US aims to have renewable energy sources account for about 25% of electricity generation by 2025 and to have average electricity demand decrease by 15% by 2030.

To achieve these goals, the US government established the Clean Energy Deployment Authority (CEDA) under the US Department of Energy, which functions as a “green bank” to mobilize and disburse investment capital for clean energy programs.

However, President Donald Trump’s return to the White House could have decisive implications for the reversal of US green economic policies. During Trump’s first term, more than 125 US environmental regulations and policies were abolished, according to the Washington Post

Trump's 2025 second-term plan aims to sharply cut budgets for key climate-related agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of the Interior (DOI).

Not only will this weaken the ability to implement emission reduction and environmental protection projects, it will also cause many ongoing programs to stall. Climate science research agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the United States Global Change Research Program (USGCRP), will also face organizational restructuring.
