DNVN - The price of live pigs on December 26, 2024 recorded a transaction level of 63,000 - 69,000 VND/kg, with mixed developments in different regions.
North: Growth slows down
The market for live pigs in the North showed signs of slowing down when prices in Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Vinh Phuc and Nam Dinh decreased slightly to 68,000 VND/kg. Here, the price of live pigs fluctuated from 67,000 - 69,000 VND/kg, in which Hanoi, Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, Hai Duong and Hung Yen continued to maintain the highest price in the country, 69,000 VND/kg.
Central Highlands: Prices continue to increase
In contrast to the North, the price of live pigs in the Central Highlands increased slightly in many localities. Lam Dong reached 68,000 VND/kg, Quang Binh 67,000 VND/kg, and Thua Thien Hue and Binh Dinh were at 66,000 VND/kg. This region is currently trading in the range of 64,000 - 68,000 VND/kg.
South: Slight increase in Mekong Delta
In the South, some localities such as Can Tho, Long An, Vinh Long and Ca Mau recorded prices increasing to 67,000 VND/kg. Ben Tre and An Giang reached 66,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the price of 68,000 VND/kg appeared in Dong Nai, Tay Ninh and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. The price of live pigs in the whole region fluctuated from 63,000 - 68,000 VND/kg.
Year-end market: Supply and demand and disease risk
Experts say that the price of live pigs may increase slightly in the coming days due to high demand during the Lunar New Year. However, supply from farms may put pressure on the market when the number of pigs sold increases sharply.
To cope with African swine fever, Dak Glei district (Kon Tum) recommends that livestock farmers increase monitoring and promptly report any signs of the disease. At the same time, it is necessary to comply with biosecurity measures, clean barns and not buy, sell or consume pigs of unknown origin.
District leaders emphasized: "Livestock farmers must absolutely not be subjective in disease prevention to minimize damage."
