Following the initial success at the end of April 2023, Nguyen Hue walking street in Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa district will continue to be held on the occasion of welcoming the new year 2024. These days, Lao Bao town is urgently preparing conditions to complete all work according to plan. It is expected that this walking street will be an attractive destination, attracting tourists during the 2024 New Year holiday.

Just like the first time on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30 (1975-2023), this time, Ms. Le Thi Hai Ly in An Ha hamlet, Lao Bao town registered to participate in the food stall on Nguyen Hue walking street with typical dishes such as: sticky rice, grilled chicken, boiled snails... She is very excited and looking forward to bringing local specialties to introduce and promote to tourists near and far during the upcoming New Year.
Ms. Ly shared: “Learning from the previous experience, my food stall was quite short due to not having enough products to serve the needs of tourists during the holiday. This time, I will increase the number of dishes to serve customers attentively and add some new dishes, helping diners have a more interesting experience. I hope my food stall will also be supported by everyone like the first time I participated in the walking street.”
It is known that in order to organize the second walking street, since November 2023, the People's Committee of Lao Bao town has issued a plan to organize Nguyen Hue walking street to welcome the new year 2024. Accordingly, in addition to the old location, the walking street will operate from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. from December 29 to December 30, 2023; the opening night will take place at 6:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. The scale and number of kiosks are expected to be from 50 to 60 booths.
The areas in the street are divided into 6 areas, including 4 main areas: area 1 displays and sells traditional craft products, specialties of Lao Bao, Laos and neighboring communes and towns; area 2 performs cultural and artistic performances, takes souvenir photos; area 3 sells refreshments and entertainment for children; area 4 sells culinary specialties of Lao Bao, Laos and neighboring communes and towns.
Lao Bao Town People's Committee also reported on supporting the art program at Nguyen Hue walking street. Accordingly, in order to strengthen the emotional relationship between Trieu Phong's hometown and Lao Bao town, on the occasion of Lao Bao Town People's Committee organizing Nguyen Hue walking street to welcome the New Year 2024 and welcome the Spring of Giap Thin, towards the 30th anniversary of Lao Bao town's establishment on August 1 (1994-2024), Trieu Phong District People's Committee will support Lao Bao town with an art program at the opening night of the walking street with the performance time after the opening ceremony, starting at 6:00 p.m. on December 29 on Nguyen Hue street.
After having a specific plan and report, the Lao Bao town government, socio-political organizations and local people immediately started to carry out specific tasks such as: actively coordinating propaganda on mass media about the time, location, content and significance of organizing the walking street on the occasion of the New Year 2024. Regularly and continuously announcing and creating conditions for people in 11 hamlets and villages in the town to register booths to participate in the walking street.
Support favorable conditions for everyone to participate in practicing folk dances to serve the night of the walking street. Organize a working session with households living on Nguyen Hue Street to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of the people to continue to participate and actively agree and highly support the walking street activities this time...
Mr. Nguyen Huu Kha, in An Ha hamlet, said: “My family lives on Nguyen Hue street, where the walking street is organized. Just like the first time at the end of April, my family is very in agreement and supportive of this activity. This is a very practical and meaningful activity, contributing to the development of the locality.”
From the beginning of December 2023 until now, the town has been urgently preparing important tasks such as: cultural and artistic programs and street activities. This activity will be performed over 2 nights, the first night on the opening night (the night of December 29) will host an art program by the Trieu Phong district mass art troupe; the second night (the night of December 30) will continue to perform street folk dances with the participation of about 250 people.
The street food program mainly includes specialties of Lao Bao town and neighboring Laos. Along with enjoying street food, there are performances of Lam Vong dances and folk songs and games of the Van Kieu and Pa Ko people in the town. The town is currently decorating and installing lighting systems on the walking street. Organize workers to clean up the campus and roads to ensure environmental hygiene around the area where the walking street is held.
Huong Hoa district has identified tourism development as a key economic sector. Lao Bao is a bridgehead urban area on the Trans-Asia Highway, where there are conditions for all-round development, including tourism. Maintaining and developing Nguyen Hue walking street will be a highlight, gradually forming one of the tourism development chains of Huong Hoa district, with the goal of meeting the cultural and entertainment needs of the people and attracting tourists to Lao Bao, contributing to promoting the development of trade, services and tourism in the border town.
Chairman of Lao Bao Town People’s Committee Le Ba Hung said: “The first Nguyen Hue Walking Street attracted thousands of participants and experiences, leaving an unforgettable impression on tourists and locals. Following that success, the walking street will be held for the second time on the occasion of New Year 2024.
The reason why the locality chose to organize it at this time is because Lao Bao town has a different climate than everywhere else in winter, the weather is not rainy, always dry and sunny, creating very favorable conditions for tourists from everywhere to experience. Compared to the first time, this time, the organized walking street will have highlights of street art performances; cultural and culinary exchanges with Laos; focusing on promoting unique cultural features imbued with the national identity of the Van Kieu and Pa Ko people in the locality.
