Heavy rains have lashed Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), leaving roads and infrastructure submerged. Nearly 100mm of rain fell in Dubai in 12 hours, equivalent to an entire year's worth of rain.
Dubai has a predominantly hot and dry climate. Heavy rainfall is a rare occurrence here. As a result, the city's infrastructure is ill-prepared to handle extreme events such as flooding.

Many roads and areas lack drainage systems, and authorities have had to send tankers to pump out water. Some drivers have been forced to abandon their vehicles as the water levels continue to rise, submerging roads. Many luxury supercars are seen floating on the streets.
"The Rolls Royce is flooded. We're stuck in the middle of the streets of Dubai," said Jordan Welch, a YouTuber who was stuck in his Rolls Royce in Dubai.

Dubai International Airport was also shut down for half an hour and repeatedly disrupted operations due to flooding. Scenes inside one of the world's busiest airports showed chaos, with people rushing to leave Dubai and sleeping on the floor waiting for flights.
