NDO - Vietnam is in the Top 5 regions with 77% of tourists participating in the survey affirming that sustainability plays an important role in their travel decisions in 2025, higher than the average of the whole Asia (68%).

On March 11, the Agoda Sustainable Tourism 2025 Survey released a list of countries with the highest interest in sustainable tourism. Vietnam is in the Top 5 regions with 77% of survey participants affirming that sustainability plays an important role in their travel decisions in 2025, higher than the average of the whole Asia (68%).

The Philippines tops the list with 86% prioritizing sustainability for travel in 2025, followed by India (82%), Taiwan (China) (80%) and Malaysia (80%).

The survey, conducted with more than 6,000 participants across 11 Asian markets, revealed a shift in sustainable travel across the region as authentic experiential travel, purpose-driven travel and off-peak travel gain popularity.

Indigenous tourism experiences promote more sustainable tourism options

Vietnamese tourists are increasingly attracted to authentic travel experiences and want to actively contribute to the development of local communities.

According to the survey, 27% of participants prioritize trips that experience local culture, while 19% want to contribute to the local economy. This trend shows a strong shift from purely leisure travel to itineraries that bring more positive and meaningful impacts.

Low season travel becomes mainstream

With the desire to reduce the impact on the environment, 22% of Vietnamese tourists choose to travel during the low season to limit overcrowding at destinations. 21% of tourists choose accommodations that are certified as sustainable, and 15% of tourists proactively bring reusable items such as water bottles and cloth bags to reduce waste to the environment.

“Sustainability is now a top concern for Vietnamese travelers. Agoda’s Eco Deals program is designed to encourage travelers to make sustainable choices when planning their trips. For every booking at participating hotels, Agoda will donate $1 to local conservation projects. This helps travelers save money while helping to preserve the natural beauty and cultural identity of destinations for future generations,” said Vu Ngoc Lam, Country Director of Agoda Vietnam.

Agoda's Eco Deals program, which will launch in 2025, will continue to offer travelers attractive discounts of up to 15% at participating hotels in 10 Asian countries.

2025 also marks the first year that Japan and South Korea will join the program, expanding the scope of the program to allow travelers to contribute more. Agoda’s Eco Deals Fund will support WWF conservation projects to protect wildlife and preserve important ecosystems across Asia. More information about the program can be found at www.agoda.com/ecodeals.
